Chapter 6 – Vanessa’s Revenge

Chapter 6 – Vanessa’s Revenge
The world loved a scandal.
Especially when the people involved were powerful.
For decades, the Blackwood family had controlled newspapers, influenced politicians, and carefully protected their image.
They had decided what people knew.
They had decided what people believed.
They had decided who was respected and who was forgotten.
But now the story belonged to someone else.
And that someone was Emily Carter.
The Morning Everything Changed
The headline appeared at six o’clock in the morning.
BLACKWOOD FAMILY SECRET EXPOSED: UNKNOWN HEIR REVEALED
By seven, it was everywhere.
News websites.
Social media.
Business channels.
A photograph of Emily leaving the Blackwood mansion spread across the internet.
The woman everyone once ignored.
The woman everyone thought was just a housekeeper.
Was now connected to one of the wealthiest families in the country.
Emily stared at the screen from Claire’s small living room.
She felt no happiness.
No excitement.
Only exhaustion.
“I never wanted this.”
Claire sat beside her.
“I know.”
“I never wanted their money.”
“I know.”
Emily looked at the photograph.
“Then why does everyone think I’m trying to take something from them?”
Claire had no answer.
Because that was the cruelest part.
People believed what they wanted to believe.
And powerful families always had a way of making innocent people look guilty.
Vanessa Loses Everything
Vanessa Blackwood watched the news from her apartment.
Her phone had not stopped ringing.
Friends.
Business partners.
People who once begged for her attention.
Now they wanted explanations.
She threw the phone across the room.
“How could this happen?”
She looked at herself in the mirror.
A woman who always believed she was destined to win.
A woman who thought Emily was beneath her.
Now Emily’s name was above hers.
The door opened.
Her father entered.
“You need to leave the city for a while.”
Vanessa turned.
“Excuse me?”
“The family needs distance.”
A bitter laugh escaped her.
“The family?”
She walked closer.
“You mean Margaret needs distance from me because I embarrassed her.”
Her father said nothing.
Vanessa smiled.
“That’s all we are to this family, isn’t it?”
“What?”
“Tools.”
She looked toward the window.
“When we are useful, they protect us.”
A pause.
“When we fail, they throw us away.”
For the first time, Vanessa understood something.
She had spent years trying to become a Blackwood.
But the Blackwoods had never truly loved anyone.
The Plan
Three days later, Vanessa disappeared from public view.
Everyone assumed she had accepted defeat.
They were wrong.
Because Vanessa Blackwood had never been dangerous when she was powerful.
She was dangerous when she had nothing left to lose.
She met someone in a private underground parking garage.
A man wearing a dark coat.
“You said you could destroy her.”
Vanessa said.
The man nodded.
“Emily Carter?”
“Yes.”
“What do you want?”
Vanessa smiled.
“The truth.”
The man laughed.
“No.”
“You want revenge.”
Her expression hardened.
“Both.”
The First Attack
The first story appeared the next morning.
NEW HEIR’S PAST RAISES QUESTIONS
The article claimed Emily had manipulated the Blackwoods.
That she had known about her inheritance.
That she had intentionally entered the mansion to gain access to the family fortune.
The accusations spread quickly.
Because lies traveled faster than truth.
Again.
Daniel read the article in silence.
His jaw tightened.
“This is impossible.”
James stood nearby.
“It is already trending.”
Daniel looked up.
“Who published it?”
James hesitated.
“Several outlets.”
“That means someone paid for it.”
Emily’s Past
The second article was worse.
It revealed private details about Emily’s life.
Her financial struggles.
Her old apartment.
Her years working as a housekeeper.
The article twisted every hardship into a weakness.
Poor Woman Suddenly Becomes Heiress.
That was the message.
Not survivor.
Not victim.
Not someone betrayed.
A woman chasing wealth.
Emily read the comments.
She regretted it immediately.
“You don’t belong there.”
“She planned everything.”
“She’s just another gold digger.”
The same people who had ignored her now hated her.
Because the world was comfortable with Emily being invisible.
It was uncomfortable seeing her powerful.
Daniel’s Promise
Daniel found her outside Claire’s house.
She was sitting alone.
“You shouldn’t read those.”
Emily looked up.
“Why?”
“Because they’re lies.”
She smiled sadly.
“But they’re written about me.”
Daniel sat beside her.
“Emily.”
“No.”
She interrupted.
“I know what people think.”
A pause.
“They see a woman who worked in a mansion suddenly connected to billions.”
She looked away.
“They don’t see the years I cleaned those floors.”
Daniel’s expression softened.
“I see.”
Emily looked at him.
“Do you?”
The question hurt.
Because Daniel knew he had not always seen.
The Hidden Recording
That night, Daniel received a package.
No return address.
Inside was a small flash drive.
A note was attached.
Ask your grandmother what happened the night Eleanor Carter disappeared.
Daniel plugged it in.
A recording played.
At first, only voices.
Then he recognized one.
Margaret.
“You cannot stay here.”
A younger Margaret.
And Eleanor.
Crying.
“Please, Margaret. Let me see Jonathan.”
“No.”
“He deserves to know about Emily.”
Silence.
Then Margaret spoke.
“If you tell him, you will lose everything.”
Eleanor’s voice shook.
“I don’t care about the money.”
Margaret replied:
“Everyone says that until they have something to lose.”
Then another voice.
Jonathan.
Daniel froze.
“Mother, what are you doing?”
The recording ended.
Daniel stared at the screen.
Because there was one thing he finally understood.
Jonathan had tried to stop it.
But someone had prevented him.
The Enemy Inside
Daniel went directly to Margaret.
She was sitting in the library.
As if she had been expecting him.
“You heard it.”
Daniel stopped.
“You knew.”
“Yes.”
“You knew my father wanted to protect Emily.”
“Yes.”
“And you still destroyed their lives.”
Margaret looked at him.
“I protected this family.”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
“You protected your power.”
Vanessa’s Final Move
While Daniel confronted Margaret...
Vanessa released the information she had been saving.
A document.
A legal document.
One that appeared to prove Emily had no claim to the inheritance.
Within hours, the news changed.
BLACKWOOD HEIRSHIP DISPUTED
Emily’s victory began collapsing.
Again.
Daniel looked at the document.
Something felt wrong.
The signature.
The date.
The wording.
It was almost perfect.
Almost.
Then he noticed one detail.
A mistake only someone inside the family would know.
The document was fake.
And whoever created it knew the Blackwood secrets.
The Real Threat
Daniel called Emily.
She answered quietly.
“Daniel?”
“Vanessa is not acting alone.”
Silence.
“What do you mean?”
“Someone is helping her.”
“Who?”
Daniel looked toward the mansion.
Toward the place where secrets had lived for decades.
“I don’t know yet.”
A pause.
“But I think we’ve been looking at the wrong enemy.”
Emily felt a chill.
“Then who is the enemy?”
Daniel whispered:
“Someone who wants the entire Blackwood empire to collapse.”
Outside the window, the city lights reflected against the glass.
The war had begun.
And Vanessa Blackwood was no longer trying to win.
She was trying to destroy everything.
May you like
Including herself.
