CHAPTER 2: Ethan Arrives

CHAPTER 2: Ethan Arrives

The door to the private room opened before Savannah could respond again.

Ethan stepped in.

He paused the moment he saw me—soaked in red wine, standing too still—and then shifted his gaze to Savannah.

“What is going on?”

Silence swallowed the room.

I didn’t speak first this time.

Savannah did.

“She’s causing a scene at my dinner,” she said instantly. “Again.”

Ethan’s eyes moved to the open envelope on the table.

Becca, quietly, said, “It’s about March vendor changes.”

That was enough.

Ethan walked closer, picked it up, and read.

His face didn’t explode. It just… shut down.

“You told me these were approved by both of us,” he said quietly.

Savannah stood up too fast. “They were! I handled the adjustments because your sister kept distracting you with—”

“Don’t,” Ethan interrupted.

Just that word.

It wasn’t loud. But it stopped everything.

He looked at me then.

“What were you going to ask earlier?”

I exhaled.

“I was going to ask why you moved money from the shared account without telling him.”

The room went completely still.

Savannah’s voice cracked slightly. “That’s not what this is.”

Ethan didn’t look at her anymore.

“Tell me the truth,” he said.

And for the first time, Savannah didn’t have a performance ready.
