Chapter 4 – Coming Home

Months later...

Evelyn climbed the mansion staircase once again.

This time, Alexander walked beside her.

Not because she needed help.

Because he wanted to be there.

When they reached the landing, she laughed softly.

"I think I've had enough staircases for one lifetime."

Alexander smiled.

"I can have an elevator installed."

She gently patted his hand.

"What I needed wasn't an elevator."

"It was my son."

He hugged her carefully.

"I'm sorry I didn't see the truth sooner."

She looked at him with the patience only a mother could have.

"The important thing is that when the truth was finally in front of you..."

"...you believed it."

Alexander later established a charitable foundation in his mother's name, supporting fall prevention and rehabilitation programs for older adults recovering from serious injuries.

Whenever reporters asked why, he always gave the same answer:

"My mother taught me that strength isn't measured by how high you climb."

"It's measured by how many times you choose to lift someone else."

And from that day forward, the grand staircase was no longer remembered for the fall that nearly destroyed a family.

It became a reminder that truth, when preserved, can protect those who no longer have the strength to protect themselves.

The End.
