Chapter 2: The Silence After Power Speaks

Chapter 2: The Silence After Power Speaks

The ballroom didn’t breathe.

Not properly.

Even the chandeliers seemed too bright for what had just been revealed.

Linda Harris stood still at the table, her hand resting lightly on the edge of Emily’s chair like the chaos around her didn’t matter at all.

Margaret’s lips parted, but no sound came out.

Because the documents were real.

Not props.

Not threats.

Ownership records stamped, signed, verified.

Daniel stepped forward slowly, eyes scanning the table like it might rearrange itself into something less impossible.

“This is a joke,” Margaret finally forced out.

But her voice shook.

Linda looked at her calmly.

“If it were a joke,” she said, “you wouldn’t be afraid.”

A silence fell again.

Heavier this time.

Daniel turned toward Emily, confusion breaking through his anger.

“You never told me your mother was—”

“I told you she was private,” Emily said softly.

Her eyes stayed on her mother.

Not surprised.

Just
 shaken.

Like she had always known there was something deeper beneath the quiet life Linda lived.

Margaret stepped back slightly.

For the first time, she wasn’t the center of the room.

And she hated it.
