Chapter 13

Chapter 13

The Real Heir

The words remained on the wall.

THE LAST CONFESSION BELONGS TO THE CHILD WHO SURVIVED.

Lillian stared at the message as the smoke from the shattered windows slowly disappeared into the night air.

Sophia Reed was gone.

Alexander's letter was gone.

And once again, the truth had been taken away just before they could reach it.

But this time, Lillian refused to let the past disappear.

Not again.

Daniel Cross stood silently in the center of the ruined clinic.

For the first time, Lillian saw something she had never seen before.

Fear.

Not fear of being exposed.

Fear of remembering.

"You know where Sophia went."

Daniel didn't answer.

Lillian stepped closer.

"You know who the third child is."

Still nothing.

"Daniel."

Her voice became colder.

"How many more people have to suffer before you stop protecting secrets?"

Daniel looked at her.

And finally...

He broke.

"I spent twenty-six years trying to protect you."

Lillian laughed bitterly.

"By lying to me?"

"Yes."

The honesty shocked her.

Daniel continued.

"Because the truth was more dangerous than the lie."

"Who is the third child?"

Daniel closed his eyes.

"The person who inherited the Whitmore empire without anyone knowing."

The answer made no sense.

The Whitmore empire had always belonged to the family.

To Charles.

To Victoria.

To Ethan.

To Amelia's bloodline.

How could someone else inherit everything?

Unless...

The person had been there all along.

At that moment, Aaron Blake arrived with emergency officers.

He looked at the damaged clinic.

"What happened?"

Nobody answered immediately.

Then he noticed Daniel.

"You."

Daniel looked at him.

"You finally found your grandmother's secret."

Aaron froze.

"My grandmother?"

Daniel nodded.

"Sophia Reed was never just a nurse."

Aaron's expression changed.

"Who was she?"

Daniel looked toward the old clinic.

"She was the guardian of the true heir."

They returned to the Whitmore estate before sunrise.

Nobody slept.

The family gathered once again.

But this time, there was no anger.

Only exhaustion.

Twenty-six years of secrets had finally caught up with them.

Daniel placed a small black box on the table.

"I should have given this to Amelia years ago."

Inside was a key.

An old-fashioned key with the same magnolia symbol.

"What does it open?" Victoria asked.

Daniel answered:

"The real family vault."

Everyone stared.

"The vault in Redwood Manor was a decoy."

Lillian frowned.

"Then what burned?"

"The records Charles wanted everyone to find."

"And the real documents?"

Daniel looked at her.

"Hidden where only the true heir could access them."

The key led them beneath the oldest part of the Whitmore estate.

A hidden staircase descended beneath the foundation.

A place no family member knew existed.

At the bottom was a metal door.

No lock.

Only the magnolia symbol.

Lillian touched it.

The door opened.

Inside was a small chamber.

Not filled with gold.

Not filled with expensive objects.

Filled with history.

Letters.

Photographs.

Documents.

The truth.

At the center was a sealed envelope.

The name written on it made everyone stop.

For the Real Heir of Whitmore.

Victoria looked at Amelia.

"Open it."

Amelia shook her head.

"No."

Everyone turned.

"Why?"

Amelia looked at Lillian.

"Because this belongs to the child who was chosen."

Lillian stepped forward.

"Then we find out who that is."

Inside the envelope was a legal document.

A final inheritance agreement.

Signed by Charles Whitmore.

But unlike his other documents...

This one was genuine.

The first page revealed the truth.

The Whitmore fortune was never meant to pass only through the oldest child.

Charles had created a hidden succession rule.

A rule known only to a few.

The true heir would be:

The child who carried the Whitmore bloodline and was protected from the family war.

Ethan frowned.

"Protected?"

Daniel nodded.

"Because Charles knew the family would destroy itself."

Lillian looked at the document.

"Who was protected?"

Daniel remained silent.

Then another page appeared.

A handwritten note.

Sophia's writing.

I protected the child Charles never knew he lost.

Everyone froze.

"The child Charles never knew he lost?"

Amelia whispered:

"No..."

She remembered.

A night before Lillian's birth.

A conversation.

A secret.

A child who was never registered.

The door behind them suddenly opened.

Everyone turned.

A woman stood there.

Older.

Calm.

Holding the missing ledger.

Sophia Reed.

But she was not alone.

Beside her stood another person.

A young woman.

Around Lillian's age.

Her eyes were familiar.

Her expression was familiar.

And around her neck...

Was the same jade symbol.

Nobody spoke.

Sophia looked at Amelia.

"I am sorry."

Amelia stepped forward.

"Who is she?"

Sophia looked at the young woman.

"Her name is Clara."

The woman looked at Lillian.

"Your sister."

The world stopped.

Lillian felt as though the floor had disappeared beneath her.

Another sister.

Another child.

Another secret.

Clara looked at the family.

"For twenty-six years, I lived believing I was nobody."

"My name was changed."

"My history was erased."

"My existence was hidden."

She looked at Victoria.

"Just like hers."

Victoria covered her mouth.

"How many children did Charles hide?"

Sophia answered:

"Three."

She pointed at Lillian.

"The first daughter."

She pointed at Ethan.

"The son who became the false heir."

Then she looked at Clara.

"The daughter who was meant to become the true heir."

The missing ledger finally revealed the complete plan.

The Circle of Magnolia wanted Clara because she was the child they could control.

She had no public identity.

No family connection.

No one searching for her.

But Sophia refused.

She hid Clara away.

Raised her secretly.

Protected her.

Clara opened the ledger.

Inside were the names of everyone involved.

Charles Whitmore.

Marcus Whitmore.

Several members of the Circle.

And one final name.

The person who had ordered Amelia's disappearance.

The person who had controlled everything.

The person still alive.

Lillian looked at the name.

Her heart stopped.

Because she knew it.

Everyone knew it.

The final mastermind was not Charles.

Not Marcus.

Not Daniel.

It was someone who had stood beside them from the beginning.

Someone who had acted like a victim.

Someone who had searched for the truth.

Clara closed the ledger.

"The real heir was never the child with the strongest blood."

"The real heir was the child who could end the cycle."

She looked at Lillian.

"And that is why they were afraid of you."

Outside the hidden vault, every alarm in the mansion suddenly activated.

A message appeared on the security screen.

No sender.

Only three words.

THE FINAL CHAMBER OPENS.

Then another line appeared.

COME ALONE, LILY.

Lillian stared at the screen.

Because the person calling her there...

Used the name only one person had ever used.

Her mother.

Lily.

But Amelia was standing right beside her.

May you like

Which meant only one possibility remained.

Someone else had been pretending to be Amelia all along.
