Chapter 4: A Different Beginning

Chapter 4: A Different Beginning

Six months later, Whitestone Estate hosted another wedding.

Smaller.

Simpler.

Filled with laughter instead of tension.

This time Clara wasn't the bride.

She had transformed the estate into a venue that offered free weddings each year for couples facing financial hardship.

The dress Patricia destroyed remained on display inside a glass case.

Not as a reminder of cruelty.

But of courage.

Beside it sat a small plaque.

"A beautiful dress can be torn. A person's dignity cannot."

Andrew wrote to Clara several times.

She wished him peace but never replied.

Patricia never returned to Whitestone Estate.

Her invitation was permanently revoked.

One evening, a young bride admired the framed dress.

"Why keep something broken?" she asked.

Clara smiled.

"Because people need to know that broken things don't always mean broken lives."

She looked around the ballroom where another couple exchanged vows beneath warm lights.

Love wasn't proven by expensive silk.

Or grand ceremonies.

Or perfect photographs.

It was proven in the moment someone chose to stand beside you when doing so was hardest.

Andrew failed that test.

Clara passed it.
