Jonathan placed the flash drive into the television mounted on the dining room wall.
A video began to play.
The date appeared in the corner.
Almost two years earlier.
The screen showed William Carter sitting in his private study.
Though older, his voice remained clear.
"If you're watching this..."
"Emma has finally decided she deserves better."
Daniel stared at the screen in disbelief.
His grandfather continued.
"I've watched this family for years."
"I've watched people confuse wealth with worth."
Then another recording appeared.
Hidden security footage.
Daniel laughing as he mocked Emma in front of guests.
Daniel's mother insulting Emma's parents.
Daniel deliberately embarrassing Emma during family gatherings.
Jonathan quietly explained,
"Mr. Carter instructed the household staff to preserve every recording involving repeated emotional abuse."
Emma lowered her eyes.
She had never known.
William had known everything.
The final video showed William speaking directly to Daniel.
"You believe inheritance is your birthright."
"It isn't."
"Respect is."
"And today..."
"You have lost both."
Silence consumed the room.
Daniel whispered,
"Grandfather..."
Jonathan closed the laptop.

He handed it to Daniel.
The color drained from Daniel's face as he read.
