Chapter 3 – When the Golden Son Fell

Chapter 3 – When the Golden Son Fell
The first person to move was my father.
But not toward Sophie.
Toward Preston.
“Tell me this is fake,” he whispered.
Preston didn’t answer.
For the first time in his life, he had nothing to say.
My mother grabbed his arm.
“Preston… fix this.”
But there was no fixing it.
The hotel security officer stepped forward.
“Sir… we need you to come with us.”
Preston finally snapped.
“You’re going to believe a camera over me?”
His voice cracked.
“It’s my wedding!”
Silence answered him.
Not one guest stepped forward.
Not one voice defended him.
Because the footage had already done what words couldn’t undo.
Evelyn knelt beside me again.
Her voice was softer now.
“Your daughter… I didn’t know…”
I didn’t look at her.
“None of you did,” I said.
“And that’s the problem.”
Preston turned toward me.
For the first time that night, his voice wasn’t angry.
It was desperate.
“You always wanted me to fail.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
“You did that yourself.”
Security moved in.
Handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
The sound echoed through the chandelier-lit hall like a final judgment.
As they pulled him away, he looked back one last time.
Not at the guests.
Not at my parents.
At Sophie.
But she wasn’t looking at him anymore.
She was holding my hand.
And that was enough.

Outside, sirens finally arrived.
The truth had already beaten them there.
