Chapter 2: The Girl with the Mint-Green Laptop

No one noticed the little girl until the steel door slid open.

She couldn't have been older than ten.

She wore a faded blue hoodie, sneakers with untied laces, and carried a mint-green laptop covered in cartoon stickers.

The armed guards immediately stepped forward.

"Sir, she shouldn't be here."

Before Vincent could answer, the estate's head housekeeper hurried into the room.

"I'm so sorry, Mr. Calder."

"My daughter followed me."

"I'll take her away."

The little girl looked at the countdown.

14:51.

Then at the code racing across the screens.

"You shouldn't disconnect the servers."

Aaron frowned.

"What?"

She pointed without hesitation.

"The virus isn't trying to steal your files."

"It's trying to make you destroy them yourself."

Several engineers exchanged skeptical looks.

Aaron scoffed.

"This isn't a game, kid."

The little girl quietly opened her laptop.

"My name is Emma."

"My mom cleans your library."

"And you have thirteen minutes left."

Vincent watched her for a long moment.

There was no fear in her eyes.

Only certainty.

May you like

"Let her speak."

The room fell silent.
