Chapter 3: The Man No One Suspected

Emma's fingers flew across the keyboard.

Within seconds, a three-dimensional network map appeared on her screen.

Colored lines spread through the estate's entire security system.

She enlarged one blinking connection.

"It started here."

Aaron leaned closer.

"That's impossible."

"Only my terminal has administrator access."

Emma nodded.

"Exactly."

She pressed Enter.

The room's monitors replayed security logs from two hours earlier.

Aaron entering alone.

A small encrypted device plugged into the main server.

Disconnected exactly twenty-seven seconds later.

Aaron's face lost all color.

"That's fabricated."

Emma calmly shook her head.

"No."

"The malware waited until today's emergency meeting because everyone important would be in the same room."

Vincent stared at the footage.

"Aaron..."

"I trusted you."

Aaron slowly backed toward the door.

"You don't understand."

"I had no choice."

Before he could run, security officers blocked every exit.

Then Emma spoke one final sentence.

"He wasn't working alone."

She highlighted another hidden login.

Someone had remotely authorized Aaron's access every week for six months.
