CHAPTER 1: THE MAN BEHIND THE DOOR

CHAPTER 1: THE MAN BEHIND THE DOOR
The door creaked wider.
Esteban didn’t move. Neither did Yohandra. The only sound in the room was the frantic beeping of the heart monitor, as if it could sense danger pressing in.
A shadow fell across the doorway.
But it wasn’t a single man.
It was two guards first—then an older figure stepped between them.
Perfect posture. Expensive suit. Calm expression.
A man who looked like he had never once been denied anything in his life.
Esteban’s breath caught.
“…Father?”
The man smiled faintly.
“Still sentimental, I see.”
Yohandra’s grip tightened on Esteban’s wrist. Her body trembled violently.
“I told you he was alive,” she whispered.
Esteban’s father glanced at her like she was something left forgotten in storage.
“Yohandra,” he said smoothly. “You’ve caused quite a disturbance for a dead woman.”
Esteban stepped forward, shielding her.
“You told me you died.”
His father tilted his head.
“I told you what was necessary for you to stop searching.”
The room felt smaller. The walls heavier.
Then the billionaire’s gaze shifted slightly—toward the hallway outside the room.
“I see she came after all.”
A small figure appeared behind the guards.
The little girl.
Still holding the torn photograph.
“Mommy,” she whispered.
Yohandra gasped.
“Lia—no—stay back!”
But it was too late.
May you like
Esteban’s father sighed as if inconvenienced.
“Bring the child.”
