A voice filled the chapel.
Not the priest.
Not a mourner.
Jessica’s own voice.
Clear. Sharp. Undeniable.
“She wouldn’t sign the divorce papers, Eleanor…”
A collective gasp broke through the room.
Someone stood up in the back pew.
Then another.
David went still.
Jessica’s face drained of color so quickly it looked like it had been wiped clean.
“That’s not—” she started.
But the speakers continued.
“So I paid a mechanic two thousand dollars to cut her brake lines.”
The words didn’t echo.
They landed.
Heavy.
Permanent.
Eleanor’s expression didn’t change. Not once.
She didn’t look at Jessica.
