Chapter 4: Brittany Realizes First

Chapter 4: Brittany Realizes First

While Michael spiraled into damage control, Brittany Adams learned something much worse.

She wasn’t protected.

Not by him.

Not by the company.

Not by the fantasy she thought she had built.

At 9:12 a.m., she walked into the office wearing sunglasses too large for the situation.

At 9:13, she noticed no one spoke to her.

At 9:14, her desk phone wouldn’t stop ringing.

At 9:15, she saw her name on everyone’s lips—but not in the way she liked.

And at 9:16, she opened the email.

Her hands started shaking before she finished the second image.

By the third, she was already backing away from her desk.

By the time she reached the messages, someone had already alerted HR.

And by the time she looked up—

Security was walking toward her.

Chapter 5: The Call That Changed Everything

Michael called again.

This time, I answered immediately.

“What do you want?” he asked.

The anger was there now.

Finally.

Raw.

Uncontrolled.

“I want nothing from you,” I said.

“That’s not true.”

I smiled slightly.

“No. That’s the part you don’t understand yet.”

Silence.

Then, quieter: “You didn’t have to humiliate her.”

I paused.

For the first time that morning.

“You didn’t have to bring someone else into our marriage,” I replied.

That landed differently.

He didn’t respond.

Because there was no argument left.

Only consequences.
