CHAPTER 3 — The Collapse of Perfect Lies

CHAPTER 3 — The Collapse of Perfect Lies
Ethan walked out of the ballroom without a word.
Behind him, chaos erupted.
Guests arguing.
Phones recording.
Wedding music still playing awkwardly like it hadn’t realized the marriage was already dead.
Isabelle followed him into the hallway.
“You’re going to believe a maid over me?” she demanded.
Ethan stopped.
Slowly turned.
“I’m not believing her,” he said quietly. “I’m verifying you.”
At that exact moment, his security chief arrived.
Laptop open.
Face pale.
“Sir… your accounts were accessed this morning. Multiple transfers initiated using your pre-approved biometric signature override.”
Ethan’s eyes narrowed.
“That’s impossible.”
The man swallowed.
“It was authorized through your personal assistant system… the one only your fiancée had access to during planning.”
Silence.
Then Ethan whispered:
“She had my clearance?”
“Yes.”
From the doorway, Maya finally spoke again.
“I didn’t spill the drink by accident,” she said. “Your accountant left me a backup file before he died. He said if anything happened to him… I should stop the wedding.”
Isabelle’s voice cracked.
“You’re lying.”
But no one looked at her anymore.
Because Ethan was watching his phone again.
Incoming alert:
ALL MERGER TRANSFERS HALTED — FRAUD FLAG DETECTED
Then another:
PRIMARY TRUST RESTORED
Ethan exhaled slowly.
Like a man stepping back into his own life.
He turned toward Isabelle one last time.
“You didn’t just try to steal from me,” he said. “You tried to rewrite me.”
Security stepped in.
Isabelle backed away, shaking now.
“This is my wedding!” she shouted.
But no one followed her.
Not even the guests.
Not even the man she thought she owned.
Outside, police sirens began to echo faintly through the city streets.
Maya placed the USB drive on the floor.
Then walked toward the exit without looking back.
Ethan called after her.
“Why help me?”
She paused at the door.
“Because your accountant believed you deserved the truth… even if it ruined everything first.”
Then she left.
And for the first time that night, Ethan looked at the altar.
Still decorated.
May you like
Still perfect.
Still completely empty.
