CHAPTER 4: THE FALSE QUEEN BELOW

CHAPTER 4: THE FALSE QUEEN BELOW

The staircase down to the main hall shook with music and laughter.

And there she was.

Jimena.

Spinning under the chandelier lights like the house belonged to her.

Diamonds catching every flash of color.

Wine in her hand.

Laughing too loudly at someone Alejandro didn’t even recognize.

Then she saw him.

And instead of fear—

she smiled.

Like nothing was wrong.

Like nothing ever had been.

“You’re back early,” she said casually, stepping down from the table.

Alejandro didn’t answer.

His eyes didn’t leave her face.

For a moment, the entire room felt the shift.

Guests noticed.

Music didn’t stop.

But something underneath it did.

Alejandro spoke quietly.

“Where are my daughters’ meals?”

Jimena tilted her head.

Then laughed lightly.

“Oh,” she said. “That.”

A pause.

Then she shrugged.

“If they’re hungry, they should learn how to look pretty while suffering.”

Silence dropped instantly.

Not gradual.

Instant.

A fork slipped from someone’s hand.

A glass stopped halfway to a mouth.

Even the music felt too loud now.

Alejandro didn’t react outwardly.

But something in his eyes went still.

Too still.

CHAPTER 5: THE LEDGER OF TRUTH

He walked past her.

Not touching her.

Not yelling.

Just passing through like she was no longer relevant.

Jimena turned slightly, confused now.

“Don’t ignore me,” she called after him.

But Alejandro was already heading toward the office.

Because now he understood something simple.

This wasn’t about discipline.

It was about control.

Inside his study, he opened a locked drawer.

Bank records.

Transfer summaries.

Monthly allocations for childcare.

Signed approvals.

All marked “received.”

But the signatures didn’t match his system access logs.

Alejandro stared at the papers longer than necessary.

Then he opened his laptop.

Typed a single command.

Audit trail.

And waited.

The screen loaded slowly.

Too slowly.

Until the truth appeared.

Payments sent.

Payments rerouted.

Accounts redirected to a private offshore structure tied to one name.

Jimena Santillán.

His breathing stopped for half a second.

Then resumed—heavier.

Not rage yet.

Not grief yet.

Something colder.

Clarity.

CHAPTER 6: THE NIGHT EVERYTHING COLLAPSES

Back in the dining room, the girls were still sitting exactly where he left them.

Afraid to move.

Afraid to hope.

Alejandro returned without rushing.

He placed the audit printout on the table.

Valeria looked at it but couldn’t read it.

Camila leaned closer but stopped halfway.

Regina blinked slowly, confused.

Sofía peeked from under the table again.

Alejandro knelt down.

Not as a millionaire.

Not as a businessman.

As a father who had been absent too long.

“Listen to me,” he said gently.

They all looked at him now.

“For six months,” he continued, “I sent money here every week.”

A pause.

Valeria nodded slightly.

“We… we never saw it,” she whispered.

Alejandro closed his eyes for a brief moment.

Then opened them again.

“I know,” he said.

And for the first time that night—

his voice cracked slightly.

Because understanding it was worse than discovering it.

May you like

It meant someone had chosen this.

Intentionally.
