Chapter 3: The Dinner That Changed Everything

Chapter 3: The Dinner That Changed Everything

The following evening, the Sterling family hosted another formal dinner.

This time, Daniel invited every board member.

Every relative.

Every family lawyer.

Victoria believed it was another business announcement.

Instead, Daniel walked into the ballroom with Emily beside him.

Still wearing her chef's uniform.

The room filled with whispers.

Victoria stood.

"What is this?"

Daniel placed Rose's letter beside his father's investigation file.

Then added the engraved baby bracelet.

Finally...

He displayed a DNA report.

Probability of maternity: 99.9999%.

The ballroom went silent.

Victoria's champagne glass slipped from her fingers.

It shattered across the marble.

Daniel looked at every guest.

"For twenty-six years..."

"My mother allowed this family to mourn a daughter who never died."

He turned toward Victoria.

"You didn't lose my sister."

"You abandoned her."

Victoria burst into tears.

"I thought she was already dead!"

Emily quietly shook her head.

"Rose never blamed you."

"She only hoped one day someone would tell me who I really was."

Daniel reached for Emily's hand.

"You've spent your whole life serving meals in this house."

He smiled through tears.

"You should have been sitting at this table."

Emily looked around the mansion she had unknowingly returned to every day for work.

Then she looked toward Rose's framed photograph that Daniel had placed beside the fireplace.

"My mother," she whispered softly, "wasn't the woman who gave birth to me."

"She was the woman who ran into a burning house... and never stopped choosing me."

Not a single person in the ballroom spoke again.

Because everyone understood that night:

May you like

Wealth could build a mansion.

But only love could build a family.
