Part 2: The Envelope That Should Not Exist

Part 2: The Envelope That Should Not Exist

That evening, the courthouse was no longer just a place of law.

It had become a crime scene in motion.

Investigators moved quickly after the trial was suspended.

Arthur Sterling’s private office was sealed within hours.

What they found inside changed everything.

A locked drawer.

No forced entry.

No signs of struggle.

Only intention.

Inside it, an envelope.

Thick.

Sealed.

Marked in handwriting:

“For the child in the pink pajamas.”

Detective Rowan Blake stared at it for a long time before opening it.

He had worked homicide cases for eighteen years.

He had seen last words before.

But never like this.

Inside was a single letter.

And a USB drive.

The letter began simply:

“If you are reading this, then I am already dead.”

Rowan’s expression hardened.

He continued reading.

Arthur Sterling had known.

Not guessed.

Not feared.

Known.

That someone inside his own empire was planning his death.

But the most disturbing line came near the end:

“Protect her. She is not a witness to my murder. She is the reason I built everything in the first place.”

Rowan paused.

Looked up.

“Who is ‘her’?” someone asked behind him.

He didn’t answer.

Because he already understood.
