CHAPTER 2: THE ROOM THAT STOPPED TIME

CHAPTER 2: THE ROOM THAT STOPPED TIME
Room 237 didn’t feel like a place anymore.
It felt like a verdict already delivered.
The air was still warm from them—too warm, like the room had been trying to pretend nothing had happened inside it.
My fiancé, Daniel, sat up first.
Slowly.
As if movement itself might reset reality.
“Wait—listen,” he said immediately, voice cracking on the edge of panic. “This is not what you think.”
Beside him, my maid of honor, Clara, pulled the bedsheet tighter around herself like fabric could undo consequences.
“It’s not like that,” she echoed quickly. “We didn’t plan this. It just—”
I held up my phone.
Not shaking.
Not rushing.
Just steady enough for both of them to see that I was already past explanations.
Daniel’s eyes flicked to it.
“Don’t do this,” he said sharply now. “Please. You’re going to ruin everything.”
That word landed differently in the room.
Ruin.
As if I had arrived there to destroy something that was still intact.
CHAPTER 3: THE CALLS THAT NO ONE EXPECTS
I stepped back into the hallway.
Not looking at them anymore.
Because looking would have given them space to perform guilt.
And I was done watching performances.
I scrolled through my phone.
Not Daniel’s name.
Not Clara’s.
His family.
The first call rang once.
Picked up.
“Hello?”
I spoke clearly.
“Come to Room 237. Now.”
Pause.
“…Who is this?”
“His fiancée.”
Silence.
Then confusion.
Then alarm.
I ended the call.
And dialed again.
And again.
And again.
Within minutes, the hallway outside the hotel room began to change.
Footsteps.
May you like
Elevator dings.
Voices asking questions that didn’t have answers yet.
