CHAPTER 4: THE FIRST ARRIVALS

CHAPTER 4: THE FIRST ARRIVALS

Daniel’s mother arrived first.

She saw me standing outside the room.

Then she saw the slightly open door.

Then she heard his voice inside.

Her face shifted instantly.

Not into sadness.

Into calculation.

“Is this some kind of misunderstanding?” she asked quickly.

Before I could answer, Clara spoke from inside the room.

“It’s not what it looks like!”

A hollow sentence.

One that always arrives too late.

Daniel appeared behind her now, still half-dressed, trying to fix a reality that was already collapsing.

“Mom—just wait—”

But she pushed past him.

And walked into Room 237.

CHAPTER 5: THE MOMENT TRUTH BECOMES UNDENIABLE

The silence that followed was different.

Heavier.

Final.

Daniel’s mother didn’t scream.

Didn’t faint.

Didn’t immediately react the way people expect in stories.

She simply stared.

At her son.

At Clara.

At the bed.

At everything she had believed was stable.

Then she turned slowly toward me.

“Were you going to marry him today?” she asked quietly.

I nodded.

“Yes.”

That single word changed her expression more than anything else.

May you like

Because betrayal is one thing.

But timing is another.
