CHAPTER 2 — THE HIDDEN CAMERA

CHAPTER 2 — THE HIDDEN CAMERA

The baby shower fell silent.

Pink and gold balloons drifted lazily near the ceiling while frosting slid down Natalie's dress.

She stood frozen.

One hand instinctively covered her pregnant belly.

The other wiped icing from her face.

Across the room, Vivian adjusted her jacket as if nothing extraordinary had happened.

"I told you," she said coldly.

"You owe this family."

Natalie's husband, Ryan, rushed toward her.

"Are you hurt?"

Before Natalie could answer, she lost her balance.

The crystal cake stand lay shattered across the hardwood floor.

She slipped on the frosting.

Ryan barely caught her before she struck the ground.

"Call 911!" someone shouted.

Vivian rolled her eyes.

"Don't be ridiculous."

"It was just a cake."

Then a quiet voice came from the corner.

"No..."

Everyone turned.

Natalie's cousin Emma pointed toward a small white device mounted near the bookshelf.

"The camera."

Ryan looked up.

The family's new security camera had recorded the entire party.

Every word.

Every movement.

May you like

Every second.

Vivian's confident expression disappeared.
