The hospital named a family support room after the annual fundraiser Natalie later created.
Vivian faced legal consequences based in part on the security footage and witness statements.
More painful than the court's decision, however, was the distance that grew within her own family.
Ryan made one thing clear:
His wife and child would never again be placed in a situation where intimidation was mistaken for love.
Months later, after their daughter was born healthy, Natalie visited the hospital that had benefited from the fundraiser.
She held her baby close while watching parents comfort newborns in the neonatal unit.
Ryan smiled.
"Remember what your mother wanted?"
Natalie nodded.
"She thought money was the most valuable thing in that room."
Ryan looked at their sleeping daughter.
"She was wrong."
Natalie kissed the baby's forehead.
"The greatest gift wasn't inside the donation box."
"It was the chance to protect the people who needed us most."
