Chapter 2: The Truth in the Files

Chapter 2: The Truth in the Files
Twenty minutes later, the kitchen was filled with accountants, HR staff, and security officers.
Payroll records covered the dining table.
Alexander flipped through them one page at a time.
Each page made his expression darker.
Emily had supposedly broken:
Eleven crystal glasses.
Three antique lamps.
Two imported mirrors.
A dining chair.
Security footage quickly proved something shocking.
She hadn't broken a single one.
Every report had been fabricated.
Every deduction had been approved by Agnes herself.
The total stolen from Emily's wages exceeded twenty-three thousand dollars.
Alexander closed the file.
"How many employees?"
The HR director answered quietly.
"Twenty-six."
"She's done this to twenty-six employees."
Agnes finally panicked.
"I was only trying to control costs!"
Alexander's voice remained calm.
May you like
"No."
"You were stealing from people who couldn't fight back."
