Chapter 2: The Breaking Point

Chapter 2: The Breaking Point

Adrian walked out of the hallway first.

Not in anger.

In certainty.

The bride followed him into the smaller sitting room, her gown brushing across the floor like a shadow refusing to disappear.

“You’re choosing them over me?” she demanded.

Adrian stopped.

For a moment, he looked like he was remembering the wedding vows from hours earlier—words that now felt like they belonged to someone else.

“I am choosing my son over fear,” he said.

Her voice cracked slightly. “I never hurt him physically.”

Adrian finally turned to face her fully.

“That’s not the only way to hurt a child.”

The room fell still again.

From the doorway, Lena stood quietly with the boy, who had finally lifted his head just enough to watch.

His eyes were still wet, but no longer lost.

They were watching his father.

For the first time that night… with trust.

The bride looked around as if searching for support that wasn’t coming.

And found none.

Because every guest who had quietly returned upstairs now stood frozen in the corridor, witnessing the final unraveling of the perfect wedding.

Adrian removed the ring from his hand.

It slid off easily.

Too easily.

He placed it on the table.

“I made a mistake,” he said quietly. “Not in loving you… but in trusting the wrong version of you.”

Her breath caught.

May you like

But there was nothing left to argue against.

Only truth.
