CHAPTER 2: THE NAME THEY NEVER CONNECTED

CHAPTER 2: THE NAME THEY NEVER CONNECTED

The city lights cut across my face like cold glass.

Outside the hotel, I didn’t move for a moment.

Not because I was broken.

Because I was listening.

Inside, through the revolving doors, I could still see them.

Marcus.

His mistress.

The robe that used to hang in my private wardrobe.

The sapphire brooch my mother had placed in my hands the day she told me:

“Never forget where you come from.”

I exhaled slowly.

Then I dialed.

One number.

Not saved under “Father.”

Not under anything sentimental.

Just a single encrypted contact.

He answered immediately.

Not with surprise.

With expectation.

“Has he finally crossed the line?” he asked.

I closed my eyes for half a second.

“Yes,” I said.

And that was enough.

CHAPTER 3: THE BUILDING STARTS TO SHIFT

Inside the hotel, Marcus was still smiling.

That kind of smile men wear when they believe consequences only happen to other people.

He had already turned away from me.

Already replaced me in his mind.

Security had followed orders.

Guests had looked away.

His mistress leaned into him as if she had won something permanent.

But beneath all of that—

something had started moving.

Not visibly.

Structurally.

On the fifteenth floor, a locked executive terminal lit up.

Then another.

Then another.

Corporate access logs refreshed.

Ownership layers revalidated.

And somewhere in the building’s digital backbone—

a flag changed color.

From operational control: Marcus Vale
