CHAPTER 4: THE WOMAN HE STOPPED SEEING

I walked away from the curb.

Slowly.

Not in panic.

Not in anger.

In certainty.

For eleven years, Marcus believed I was his support system.

The quiet investor wife.

The one who signed where he pointed.

The one who smiled at galas and never asked for attention.

He never asked why I never corrected him when he said “my hotels.”

He never asked why certain board meetings paused when I entered the room.

He never asked because men like Marcus never think to question comfort.

They assume it is permanent.

CHAPTER 5: THE FIRST CALL INSIDE

Back inside the hotel, Marcus received the first notification.

A soft vibration.

Then another.

His phone lit up.

SYSTEM ACCESS RESTRICTED

He frowned.

Tried again.

Same result.

He laughed under his breath.

“Network issue,” he muttered.

But then—

his mistress tried her keycard for the presidential suite.

Red light.

Denied.

She blinked.

“Maybe it’s broken?” she suggested.

Marcus frowned now.

Tried his own access.

Also denied.

A small silence formed.

The first crack in confidence is never loud.

It’s confused.
