Chapter 2: The Ship That Was Never His

The admiral didn’t raise his voice.

He didn’t need to.

The wind off the harbor carried every word like a sentence already written.

ā€œOfficer Miller… you are relieved of duty.ā€

The woman beside Miller froze.

Not the wife.

Her.

The one still smiling seconds ago.

Now her hand slipped from his arm.

ā€œAdmiral,ā€ Miller said quickly, forcing control into his voice, ā€œthis is a personal matterā€”ā€

ā€œIt stopped being personal the moment you committed fraud on a naval asset.ā€

Silence hit harder than the waves.

The wife didn’t move.

She just stood there holding the transfer document, the sea wind snapping the paper edges like it wanted to tear it apart for her.

Miller turned toward her, voice lower now.

ā€œYou planned this.ā€

She finally exhaled.

May you like

ā€œNo,ā€ she said.

ā€œI simply stopped protecting you.ā€
