"But Richard used him instead."

"My mother found out."
Leah's voice became quieter.
"She tried to expose them."
"What happened?"
"She disappeared."
Evan looked at her.
"But Richard said she left."
Leah smiled bitterly.
"Richard says many things."
They reached the old study.
Leah stopped.
"I never told you about this room."
"Why?"
"Because this is where everything started."
Inside a hidden drawer, Leah found an old envelope.
Her hands shook.
Evan noticed.
"What is it?"
She didn't answer.
She opened it.
Inside was a letter.
A letter addressed to her.
From her mother.
Leah read silently.
Then tears appeared.
Evan wanted to ask.
But he waited.
Finally, she handed it to him.
The letter was short.
"Leah, if you are reading this, then I failed to protect you."
Evan continued.
"Your father and Richard Mercer believe they can control everything. They are wrong."
"The truth about Ellie is not the only truth they buried."
Evan stopped.
His eyes moved down.
"Your father made a mistake. He gave Richard something that should have never belonged to him."
"What?"
Leah whispered:
"I don't know."
Then Evan saw another sentence.
"Protect the child. She is the key."
He looked up.
"The child?"
Leah's face changed.
"She can't mean Ellie."
But both of them knew.
She did.
Before they could continue, a noise came from upstairs.
Someone was there.
Evan immediately stood.
"Stay behind me."
They moved carefully.
The old staircase creaked.
A shadow appeared.
Then a man stepped forward.
Evan recognized him.
One of Richard's former employees.
"Daniel?"
The man looked terrified.
"I didn't know where else to go."
Daniel had worked for Richard for fifteen years.
And he had finally decided to talk.
"I know where Victoria took Ellie."
Evan stepped closer.
"Where?"
Daniel looked at Leah.
Then whispered:
"But first, you need to know why she took her."
Evan's patience disappeared.
"Tell me."
Daniel swallowed.
"Because Victoria believes Ellie is the only thing that can destroy the Mercers."
"Why?"
Daniel hesitated.
"Because Ellie is not just your daughter."
Silence.
Leah frowned.
"What does that mean?"
Daniel looked at Evan.
"Your daughter is the heir to something your family has been hiding for decades."
Evan felt the room spin.
"What?"
Daniel opened a folder.
Inside were old documents.
Ownership records.
Bank accounts.
Legal agreements.
Evan read the first page.
And froze.
The name on the document was:

A company that supposedly never existed.
"What is this?"
Daniel answered:
"The reason both families fought."
Evan looked at Leah.

The video stopped.
Evan looked at Leah.
