CHAPTER 10

CHAPTER 10

The Truth About Marcus

The hardest truths were never the ones people discovered.

They were the ones people had to confess.

Marcus Thorne had spent his entire life mastering control.

Control over negotiations.

Control over his emotions.

Control over his enemies.

But there was one thing he could not control anymore.

The moment when Khloe looked at him and asked:

"How much of my life was decided before I even knew you?"

That question followed him everywhere.

The leaked recording had changed everything.

Again.

The world woke up to another scandal.

Not about Isabella.

Not about Richard.

About Marcus.

The headline appeared everywhere:

MARCUS THORNE'S HIDDEN CONVERSATION REVEALS FAMILY SECRETS

The recording was short.

Only a few minutes.

But enough.

Enough to make people question him.

Enough to make investors nervous.

Enough to make Khloe wonder if there were still more things he had not told her.

In the recording, Marcus's father could be heard saying:

"The Parker family connection must remain hidden until the right time."

And Marcus answering:

"I understand."

Two sentences.

Two sentences that created a storm.

Because nobody knew the context.

Nobody cared.

The world did not search for explanations.

It searched for someone guilty.

Marcus stood inside the company headquarters as executives watched him silently.

The same people who once admired him now looked uncertain.

Fear was spreading.

Not fear of losing money.

Fear of losing trust.

His assistant placed another report on his desk.

"The board wants another meeting."

Marcus did not look up.

"When?"

"Today."

He nodded.

Of course.

When a family suffered, business attacked.

That was how the world worked.

Meanwhile, Khloe sat alone in the nursery.

The room was almost finished.

Soft colors.

A small crib.

Tiny clothes waiting for the baby.

A future they had planned together.

She placed a hand over her stomach.

The baby moved slightly.

A reminder.

No matter how complicated the past became...

this child was real.

Their love was real.

But love did not erase questions.

And Khloe had too many.

Marcus found her there.

He stopped at the doorway.

For a moment, he simply watched.

The woman who had changed his entire life.

The woman who had stood beside him when everyone else wanted something from him.

The woman he almost lost because he thought hiding pain was the same as protecting her.

"Khloe."

She did not turn immediately.

"I know why you're here."

Marcus walked inside.

"I need to explain."

She nodded.

"Then explain."

No anger.

No shouting.

That almost made it worse.

Because Marcus knew she deserved anger.

"I knew my father had connections with your family."

Khloe looked at him.

"How long?"

"Before I met you."

The answer hurt.

"How long before?"

Marcus hesitated.

"About six months."

Khloe closed her eyes.

Six months.

Six months before their first meeting.

Six months before their love story began.

Six months during which someone was already watching.

Planning.

Deciding.

"Did you know my name?"

Marcus looked down.

"Yes."

Silence.

Khloe's expression changed.

"You knew who I was?"

"Not everything."

"But enough."

Marcus could not deny it.

"Yes."

Five years earlier.

Marcus remembered the first time he saw Khloe.

Not at a gala.

Not at a business event.

Not through family connections.

At a small bookstore.

A place completely different from his world.

He had gone there to escape.

To have one afternoon where nobody cared about his last name.

And there she was.

Khloe Parker.

Standing near a shelf.

Arguing with a bookstore employee about a damaged book.

Not loudly.

Not arrogantly.

Just passionately.

Marcus remembered smiling.

Because she was the first person in years who did not know who he was.

She treated him like a normal man.

Not a billionaire.

Not an opportunity.

Just Marcus.

That was what made him fall.

But what he never told her...

was that before he met her, his father had already mentioned the Parker family.

A possible connection.

A relationship between two powerful families.

Marcus ignored it.

He chose Khloe because he wanted her.

Not because anyone arranged it.

But he never told her.

And that was his mistake.

"I never married you because of a contract."

Marcus's voice was quiet.

Khloe looked at him.

"I believe that."

The answer surprised him.

"But..."

There was the word he feared.

"But I wish you trusted me enough to tell me."

Marcus nodded.

"I know."

"I don't need a perfect husband."

Her voice softened.

"I need an honest one."

He closed his eyes.

Because she had never asked for perfection.

Only truth.

At the same time, Isabella watched the news from her apartment.

She expected satisfaction.

She expected Marcus's reputation to collapse.

But something unexpected happened.

People were not turning against Khloe.

They were questioning the entire system around them.

And that made Isabella angry.

Because she wanted destruction.

Not sympathy.

Her phone rang.

The number was hidden.

She answered.

"You."

The voice on the other side was cold.

"You are becoming a problem."

Isabella laughed.

"A problem?"

"You were supposed to create chaos."

"I did."

"No."

The voice became sharper.

"You exposed too much."

Isabella's expression changed.

Because for the first time, she heard fear from the person controlling her.

"Who are you?"

Silence.

Then:

"Someone who knows what Marcus did."

The call ended.

That evening, Marcus met Daniel.

"We found the source of the recording."

Marcus looked up.

"Who?"

Daniel hesitated.

"Someone connected to Khloe."

Marcus froze.

Again.

"Who?"

Daniel placed a photograph on the table.

A woman.

Older.

Familiar.

Marcus recognized her immediately.

"That's impossible."

Daniel looked at him.

"You know her?"

Marcus nodded slowly.

"She worked for my father."

"Her name?"

Marcus stared at the photograph.

"Emily Parker."

Khloe's aunt.

The discovery created another impossible question.

Why would someone from Khloe's family betray her?

Why would someone who claimed to love her expose secrets that could destroy her marriage?

Unless...

The betrayal was not against Khloe.

It was against Marcus.

That night, Marcus returned home.

Khloe was waiting.

"We need to talk."

He nodded.

"I know."

She looked at him.

"Do you regret choosing me?"

The question shocked him.

"No."

The answer came instantly.

"Never."

"Even with everything happening?"

Marcus walked closer.

"Especially because of everything happening."

He took her hand.

"I spent my whole life surrounded by people who wanted something from me."

A pause.

"Then I met you."

His voice softened.

"You were the first person who wanted me without the name."

Khloe's eyes filled with tears.

"Marcus..."

"I should have fought harder to protect you."

"No."

She shook her head.

"You should have trusted me enough to fight beside you."

That sentence changed something.

Because Marcus finally understood.

He had spent years trying to carry every burden alone.

But marriage was not one person protecting another.

It was two people standing together.

The next morning, Daniel arrived with urgent news.

"The person who leaked the recording contacted me."

Marcus looked up.

"Who?"

Daniel handed him a letter.

Inside was one sentence.

Marcus Thorne destroyed my family. Now I will destroy his.

At the bottom was a signature.

A name Marcus knew.

A name that explained everything.

A name connected to the deepest secret of both families.

Emily Parker.

Marcus stared at the letter.

Because now the enemy was no longer outside.

Not Isabella.

Not Richard.

Not the media.

The person attacking them was someone from Khloe's own bloodline.

And the reason...

was something Marcus's father had done years ago.

May you like

Something so terrible that someone had waited a decade for revenge.
