CHAPTER 9

CHAPTER 9
The Last Weapon
The truth was supposed to set people free.
That was what everyone believed.
But Marcus Thorne had learned a different lesson.
Sometimes the truth did not free people.
Sometimes it destroyed everything they had built.
The rain fell heavily over the city that night.
The kind of rain that made the world feel hidden.
The kind of night where secrets seemed safer.
Marcus stood alone inside his office, staring at the document Daniel had sent him.
The original contract.
The one that had existed before the leaked copy.
The one that had started this entire nightmare.
His hands tightened around the paper.
Because there was one detail he could not understand.
The signature.
The name.
The person connected to a decision that should have been impossible.
Edward Parker.
Khloe's father.
A man who had died ten years ago.
A man Marcus had never met.
A man who apparently knew about him long before Khloe entered his life.
Daniel arrived thirty minutes later.
He placed another file on the desk.
"I verified it."
Marcus looked up.
"And?"
"It's real."
Those two words felt heavier than any accusation.
Marcus opened the file.
Inside were financial records.
Old agreements.
Private communications.
Everything connected to a secret arrangement between the Thorne and Parker families.
"How?"
Marcus whispered.
Daniel looked at him.
"That's what we need to find out."
Marcus stood.
"My father never mentioned this."
"Maybe he didn't know."
"Or maybe he hid it."
Daniel didn't answer.
Because that was the possibility neither of them wanted to consider.
Across the city, Isabella Rossi watched the news coverage of the trial.
The media had changed completely.
A few days ago, she was the villain.
Now?
People were confused.
And confusion was exactly what she wanted.
She did not need people to love her.
She did not need them to believe every word.
She only needed them to doubt.
Doubt was powerful.
Doubt destroyed trust.
And trust was the foundation of every relationship.
Especially marriage.
Her lawyer entered the room.
"You went too far."
Isabella looked away from the television.
"Did I?"
"You exposed information that could damage everyone."
A small smile appeared.
"Exactly."
Adrian frowned.
"You don't care who gets hurt."
"No."
She looked at him.
"I care about winning."
The next morning, the Thorne mansion became a battlefield.
Victoria Thorne stood in the library.
She looked exhausted.
"Marcus, you need to understand something."
He looked at his mother.
"What?"
"Your father made mistakes."
Marcus froze.
"You knew?"
Victoria looked away.
"Not everything."
"Mother."
His voice became sharper.
"What did you know?"
She remained silent.
And that silence gave him the answer.
"You knew."
A tear appeared in her eyes.
"I knew there were discussions."
"Discussions about what?"
Victoria sat down.
"About your future."
Marcus stared.
"My future?"
"Your father believed the Thorne family needed stability."
She swallowed.
"He believed your marriage could affect the company."
Marcus laughed bitterly.
"So my life was a business decision?"
"No."
Victoria shook her head.
"He loved you."
"Then why?"
"Because powerful families make powerful mistakes."
Meanwhile, Khloe discovered something that hurt even more.
She found the original contract.
Not the copy leaked online.
The real one.
And she saw something Marcus had not noticed.
A second page.
A hidden page.
A page containing her father's signature.
Her hands trembled.
"Why would my father do this?"
Daniel stood beside her.
"I don't know."
Khloe looked at him.
"You knew my father."
Daniel became quiet.
"Yes."
The answer shocked her.
"You knew?"
"Your father asked me to keep certain things safe."
"What things?"
Daniel looked at the document.
"This."
Khloe felt betrayed.
"Everyone knew except me."
"No."
Daniel shook his head.
"Not everyone."
"Then who?"
Daniel hesitated.
And Khloe knew.
There was another name.
Someone else involved.
"Tell me."
Daniel looked at her.
"Richard Thorne."
That afternoon, Richard appeared on television.
For the first time since the scandal began.
He gave an interview.
And he played the perfect role.
The concerned family member.
The disappointed uncle.
The man trying to protect the Thorne name.
"Marcus is under enormous pressure."
Richard said.
"We all hope he makes the right decisions."
The interviewer asked:
"Do you believe his marriage is affected?"
Richard sighed.
"I believe every marriage needs honesty."
Khloe watched the interview.
Her expression became cold.
Because she understood.
This was not an interview.
It was an attack.
A carefully disguised warning.
That evening, Marcus confronted Richard.
"You knew about the contract."
Richard did not deny it.
He simply poured himself a drink.
"Eventually, you were going to find out."
Marcus stared.
"You arranged my marriage?"
Richard smiled.
"No."
"Then what?"
"I arranged your future."
The anger in Marcus's eyes grew.
"I am not a company asset."
Richard looked at him.
"That's where you are wrong."
A pause.
"You are a Thorne."
Marcus stepped closer.
"And Khloe?"
Richard's expression changed.
"She was never supposed to be involved."
The sentence cut deeper than expected.
Marcus's voice became quiet.
"What does that mean?"
Richard looked away.
"It means your marriage was never supposed to happen."
That night, Marcus and Khloe finally had the conversation they had avoided.
No anger.
No accusations.
Only honesty.
"Did you know?"
Khloe asked.
Marcus looked at her.
"No."
She searched his face.
"I believe you."
The answer surprised him.
"You do?"
"Yes."
A pause.
"But I don't know what hurts more."
She looked down.
"The fact that people planned our lives..."
Her voice shook.
"Or the fact that everyone thought they had the right."
Marcus moved closer.
"I chose you."
Khloe looked at him.
"I know."
She touched his hand.
"And that's why I stayed."
A moment of silence.
"But now we need to find out why someone chose me."
Late that night, Daniel discovered the final piece.
An encrypted file hidden inside Edward Parker's old records.
He opened it.
Inside was a video message.
Recorded years ago.
Edward Parker appeared on the screen.
Older.
Tired.
Serious.
"If you are watching this..."
His voice shook.
"It means the plan failed."
Daniel froze.
The message continued.
"I never wanted Khloe involved."
A pause.
"But I had no choice."
The video glitched.
Then Edward said the words that changed everything.
"The person who forced this arrangement..."
The screen flickered.
"...was not a Thorne."
Daniel leaned closer.
"Who?"
Edward's final words appeared.
"Someone who wanted revenge."
The video ended.
Daniel stared at the screen.
Because now they knew.
The contract was not about money.
Not about power.
Not about marriage.
It was revenge.
And whoever created it had been waiting for years.
At the same time, Isabella received a message.
One sentence.
You have done enough. Step aside.
Her expression changed.
Because she recognized the sender.
The person who had controlled everything from the beginning.
The person who had given her information.
The person who promised her Marcus.
But now...
That person was abandoning her.
Isabella deleted the message.
Then she smiled.
A dangerous smile.
"No."
She whispered.
"If I fall..."
She looked at the photograph of Marcus and Khloe.
"...everyone falls with me."
The next morning, the world received breaking news.
A secret recording had been leaked.
A conversation between Marcus and someone from his past.
A conversation that could destroy his reputation forever.
And the person who released it?
Was not Isabella.
Was not Richard.
It was someone nobody expected.
May you like
Someone Khloe trusted.
