PART 2 â The Name Buried in Pearls

PART 2 â The Name Buried in Pearls
The room didnât move.
Not a single step. Not a single breath that felt normal.
The heir stood still, the pearl pressed between his fingers like it had suddenly become too hot to hold.
âFor ElenaâŠâ he repeated under his breath.
The poor girl was still on her knees, gathering broken pearls with trembling hands.
The rich woman finally spoke, her voice sharper nowâtoo sharp.
âThis is ridiculous. Itâs just a necklace. People engrave things all the time.â
But no one was looking at her.
They were looking at him.
Because the heirâJulian Vanceâhad gone completely pale.
âElena VanceâŠâ he whispered.
The girl looked up, confused. âThatâs not my last name.â
Julian stepped closer.
âWhere did you get that necklace?â
âMy grandmother,â she said again. âShe said it was the only thing I was allowed to keep from my mother.â
The chandeliers above them seemed to hum louder in the silence.
Julian slowly turned the pearl in his hand.
Then he saw itâsomething scratched so faintly it could only be seen under direct light.
A second line.
âProperty of Vance Estate â 18 years ago.â
The rich woman finally tried to laugh again, but it came out weak.
âThis is insaneâdo you know how many people have the name Elena?â
Julian looked at her.
May you like
And this time, his voice cut through her completely.
âNot this one.â
