PART 2 — The Name Buried in Pearls

PART 2 — The Name Buried in Pearls

The room didn’t move.

Not a single step. Not a single breath that felt normal.

The heir stood still, the pearl pressed between his fingers like it had suddenly become too hot to hold.

“For Elena
” he repeated under his breath.

The poor girl was still on her knees, gathering broken pearls with trembling hands.

The rich woman finally spoke, her voice sharper now—too sharp.

“This is ridiculous. It’s just a necklace. People engrave things all the time.”

But no one was looking at her.

They were looking at him.

Because the heir—Julian Vance—had gone completely pale.

“Elena Vance
” he whispered.

The girl looked up, confused. “That’s not my last name.”

Julian stepped closer.

“Where did you get that necklace?”

“My grandmother,” she said again. “She said it was the only thing I was allowed to keep from my mother.”

The chandeliers above them seemed to hum louder in the silence.

Julian slowly turned the pearl in his hand.

Then he saw it—something scratched so faintly it could only be seen under direct light.

A second line.

“Property of Vance Estate — 18 years ago.”

The rich woman finally tried to laugh again, but it came out weak.

“This is insane—do you know how many people have the name Elena?”

Julian looked at her.

May you like

And this time, his voice cut through her completely.

“Not this one.”
