CHAPTER 11

CHAPTER 11
Blood, Revenge, and Forgiveness
For most of Lorenzo Rossi's life, blood had only meant one thing.
Family.
And family had always meant loyalty.
Protection.
Sacrifice.
But over the last few months, Lorenzo had learned the most painful lesson a man could learn.
Sometimes blood was not a bond.
Sometimes blood was the reason you bled.
His father.
His brother.
The people closest to him had carried secrets that destroyed everything he loved.
And now the last enemy was someone who had stood beside him when Sophia died.
Someone who had held his shoulder at the funeral.
Someone who had looked into his eyes and said:
"I'm sorry for your loss."
While knowing exactly why she was gone.
The name was Victor Bellini.
Lorenzo stared at the file on his desk.
Victor Bellini.
Family advisor.
Business partner.
The man who managed Rossi investments for fifteen years.
The man who knew every account.
Every property.
Every weakness.
The man who had access to everything.
Including the medical facility.
Including Sophia.
Including Leo.
Marcus stood across from him.
"We confirmed the records."
Lorenzo did not move.
"How?"
"Victor authorized the transfer of funds to the private medical division."
A pause.
"He paid Dr. Vale."
Lorenzo's eyes darkened.
"Why?"
Marcus hesitated.
"Because if Leo died..."
He placed another document on the desk.
"The Rossi inheritance would have changed."
Lorenzo looked down.
A legal agreement.
Old.
Hidden.
Buried.
If Lorenzo's direct heir died before adulthood, control of several Rossi assets would pass to a family council.
A council controlled by Victor.
The truth was almost too simple.
Power.
Always power.
Everything came back to power.
Hunter found Lorenzo in the study.
She knew something was wrong.
She had learned his silence.
The way he stared at nothing.
The way his jaw tightened.
The way his hands clenched whenever he was trying not to become the man everyone feared.
"What happened?"
Lorenzo looked up.
"The man responsible for Sophia."
Hunter froze.
"You found him?"
"Yes."
"And?"
The old Lorenzo would have answered differently.
He would have said:
He will suffer.
He will pay.
He will regret.
But this Lorenzo only said:
"I don't know what to do."
The honesty surprised her.
Hunter stepped closer.
"That scares you."
He looked away.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I know what I used to do."
Silence.
"I know what revenge feels like."
His voice became quieter.
"It feels like justice at first."
A pause.
"Then one day you wake up and realize you've become someone your family wouldn't recognize."
Hunter understood.
Because she had felt the same.
She had hated Tommy.
She had wished terrible things.
She had imagined revenge.
But every time she looked at Lily's empty room, she knew anger couldn't bring her daughter back.
"Then don't become that man again."
Lorenzo looked at her.
"What if he deserves it?"
Hunter didn't answer immediately.
Because she knew the question was complicated.
Some people did terrible things.
Some people deserved consequences.
But there was a difference between justice and destruction.
"Sophia wouldn't want Leo to grow up with a father who is only revenge."
The words stopped him.
Because Sophia.
Always Sophia.
The meeting with Victor happened at the old Rossi warehouse.
The same place where Lorenzo had made enemies disappear.
The same place where people feared entering.
But this time, Lorenzo arrived differently.
No army.
No public execution.
No show of power.
Just himself.
Victor smiled when he saw him.
"You're finally here."
Lorenzo stared.
"Why?"
Victor laughed softly.
"That is what you want to know?"
A pause.
"Why Sophia?"
"Why Leo?"
"Why your family?"
Victor walked closer.
"Because your father built something bigger than you."
Lorenzo's expression remained cold.
"He built an empire."
"No."
Victor smiled.
"He built a machine."
A pause.
"And you were supposed to control it."
Lorenzo shook his head.
"You killed my wife for money."
"For legacy."
Victor corrected.
"You never understood."
"What?"
"Power doesn't belong to the strongest person."
He pointed at Lorenzo.
"It belongs to the person willing to do what others won't."
Lorenzo looked at him.
"And you thought killing a pregnant woman made you strong?"
Victor's smile faded.
"No."
A pause.
"I thought it made me necessary."
The confession was recorded.
Every word.
Every admission.
Every detail.
Victor believed Lorenzo came for revenge.
He didn't realize Lorenzo came prepared.
Because Hunter had taught him something important.
A weapon could end a person.
But truth could destroy an entire legacy.
When Victor realized the recording was active, his expression changed.
"You wouldn't."
Lorenzo looked at him.
"You don't know me anymore."
Victor laughed.
"I know you better than anyone."
"No."
Lorenzo stepped closer.
"You knew the old me."
A pause.
"The man who would have killed you."
Victor became quiet.
"And this new man?"
Lorenzo looked toward the window.
Where the ocean stretched endlessly.
"The man who wants his son to be proud of him."
Victor was arrested.
Not killed.
Not disappeared.
Not buried.
Arrested.
The world expected Lorenzo Rossi to choose violence.
Instead, he chose justice.
The decision shocked everyone.
Especially his own people.
Marcus found him afterward.
"You let him live."
Lorenzo nodded.
"Yes."
"Why?"
Lorenzo looked at the nursery camera.
Leo was sleeping.
Hunter was beside him.
"Because my son deserves better than my past."
Marcus was silent.
Then nodded.
Because he finally understood.
The Rossi empire was changing.
But changing did not mean forgetting.
The night after Victor's arrest, Lorenzo visited Sophia's grave.
For the first time since the funeral, he came alone.
No guards.
No assistants.
No weapons.
Just Lorenzo.
He placed flowers down.
"I'm sorry."
The words came out broken.
"I spent months trying to punish the world for taking you."
A pause.
"But I forgot I still had something worth protecting."
The wind moved through the trees.
Lorenzo closed his eyes.
"I met someone."
A small smile appeared.
"She would annoy you."
A pause.
"She tells me when I'm wrong."
Another.
"And somehow, she makes me want to be better."
He looked at Sophia's name.
"Leo loves her."
His voice softened.
"I think you would too."
When Lorenzo returned home, Hunter was waiting.
"You went to see her."
He nodded.
"Yes."
Hunter looked at him.
"Was it hard?"
"Yes."
A pause.
"But necessary."
She smiled faintly.
"That sounds like something a normal person would say."
Lorenzo almost smiled.
"I am trying."
"I noticed."
Later that night, something unexpected happened.
Leo woke up crying.
Lorenzo entered first.
Not Hunter.
He picked his son up.
Held him.
And Leo calmed.
Just like that.
Hunter watched from the doorway.
The same man who once stood outside the nursery because he didn't know how to enter...
was now the first person his son reached for.
She felt tears in her eyes.
Because sometimes healing didn't happen all at once.
Sometimes it happened in tiny moments.
A father holding his son.
A man choosing forgiveness.
A family learning how to begin again.
But peace never came easily to the Rossi family.
Three days later, Hunter received a letter.
No name.
No address.
Only one sentence.
Her hands shook as she read it.
Lily was not supposed to die.
Below it was another message.
Ask Lorenzo what he really knows about the night your daughter was born.
Hunter looked toward the nursery.
Then toward Lorenzo.
Because the past was not finished.
Not yet.
And this time...
the secret was not about Sophia.
May you like
It was about Lily.
TO BE CONTINUED...
