CHAPTER II – THE TRUTH NO ONE EXPECTED

CHAPTER II – THE TRUTH NO ONE EXPECTED

A woman near the bakery suddenly dropped her shopping bag.

“My baby…” she whispered.

All heads turned.

The stroller was gone.

For a moment, panic replaced confusion.

The rich man’s face changed. “What stroller?”

The boy pointed down the street. “It was going toward the hill. The car wasn’t in gear… it started rolling.”

The crowd rushed forward.

Down the slope, a stroller had crashed into a stack of crates—but a small baby was still inside, crying.

The rich man ran without thinking.

When he reached it, his hands shook so badly he could barely unbuckle the strap.

The baby was alive.

Behind him, the street was dead silent.

And then the man slowly turned back toward the boy.

For the first time, he didn’t look angry.

He looked broken.

“What did you say your name was?” he asked quietly.

The boy lowered his head.

“I don’t have a father,” he said.

That sentence hit harder than the accident.
