The rich man walked slowly back toward his car.
For the first time, he noticed something he had ignored before—the slight slope of the road… the loose parking brake… the mistake he had almost paid for with a life.
He turned to the boy.
“You could’ve been hurt,” he said.
The boy shrugged lightly. “I just didn’t want the baby to get hurt.”
The man looked at the scratched mirror again.
A scratch he had screamed over.
A scratch that had saved a life.
He slowly reached into his wallet, pulled out a thick stack of cash… then stopped.
It felt meaningless.
Instead, he knelt down.
“What’s your name?” he asked again.
“Leo.”
The man nodded.
“Leo… I owe you more than money.”
He paused.
“I owe you the truth that I forgot what matters.”
The street that had once been full of anger now stood still in something heavier.
