The mother stood still for a long moment.

Then she turned slightly, looking toward the hospital window where the city lights flickered like distant warnings.

“Where is he now?” she asked.

The girl shook her head. “I don’t know… they dragged me out before he left.”

“They?”

The girl hesitated.

“Two older boys. They filmed it.”

That word changed the air again.

Filmed.

The mother closed her eyes for half a second.

When she opened them, there was no hesitation left.

Only structure.

Only control.

She finally spoke into the phone again.

“New instruction,” she said. Her voice was calm now—too calm. “Recover the case. Contain all footage. No exposure.”

A pause.

Then she added:

“And bring Dustin to me.”

She ended the call.

The silence that followed was different now.

Not peaceful.

Operational.

The girl watched her carefully. “Mom… what are you going to do?”

The mother knelt again, gently this time.

“I’m going to finish what he started.”
