CHAPTER 13: THE CHOICE BETWEEN REVENGE AND JUSTICE

CHAPTER 13: THE CHOICE BETWEEN REVENGE AND JUSTICE

For the first time in his life, Daniel Anderson did not know who he was.

Not because he had lost his company.

Not because the Anderson name was falling apart.

Not because the world was discovering the secrets hidden behind his family's wealth.

Because the one truth he had always believed about himself

was gone.

He was not Richard Anderson's son.

He was Thomas Carter's son.

The man his family betrayed.

The man whose daughter had spent fifteen years searching for answers.

The man whose name had been destroyed while Daniel lived inside the empire built from his suffering.

And standing across from Emily

Daniel finally understood the cruelest part.

The person he had spent weeks trusting

was the person his family had hurt the most.

Emily looked at the DNA report on the screen.

Her face showed no anger.

That somehow made it worse.

"Say something."

Daniel whispered.

She looked at him.

"What do you want me to say?"

"I don't know."

And that was the truth.

For the first time, Daniel had no strategy.

No plan.

No solution.

Emily slowly sat down.

Her hands trembled slightly.

Not because she was afraid.

Because she was trying to understand how two impossible truths could exist together.

The Anderson family destroyed hers.

And yet

the man standing in front of her carried her father's blood.

"You knew?"

Daniel asked.

Emily looked up.

"No."

"Not even a suspicion?"

She shook her head.

"My mother never told me."

A pause.

"She only told me one thing."

"What?"

"That there was someone inside the Anderson family who deserved the truth."

Daniel closed his eyes.

He finally understood.

Thomas Carter had not hidden the information because he wanted revenge.

He had hidden it because he knew revenge would destroy innocent people.

But Victor Hale did not care about innocence.

He wanted destruction.

And he chose that moment to reveal himself.

The large screen in the mansion suddenly turned on.

Every television.

Every security monitor.

Every display.

Victor Hale appeared.

Calm.

Confident.

Smiling.

"Good evening, Daniel."

Everyone in the mansion froze.

Daniel stepped forward.

"Victor."

Victor smiled.

"Congratulations."

"You finally discovered who you are."

Emily's face hardened.

"Where are you?"

Victor ignored her.

"Do you know what I find interesting?"

A pause.

"Truth."

He laughed softly.

"Everyone claims they want it."

"But when truth arrives..."

"They usually want to hide."

Daniel stared at the screen.

"What do you want?"

Victor smiled.

"Exactly what everyone wants."

"Power."

The screen changed.

Documents appeared.

"Your family built an empire on stolen technology."

"Your father destroyed an innocent man."

"The board helped cover it."

Victor looked directly into the camera.

"But you know what makes this story beautiful?"

A pause.

"You are the proof."

Daniel's expression changed.

"You are the son of the man your family destroyed."

Silence.

Victor continued.

"The perfect ending."

Emily stepped forward.

"You're enjoying this."

Victor looked at her.

"No."

A pause.

"I am correcting history."

"By destroying everyone?"

Victor smiled.

"History is written by survivors."

The screen went black.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood the situation.

Victor had all the information.

And he planned to release everything.

The world would know the truth.

But not in the way Daniel wanted.

It would not be justice.

It would be revenge.

Later that night, Daniel sat alone in his father's office.

The same room where he once believed he understood his family's legacy.

Emily found him there.

"You should hate us."

Daniel said.

She stopped.

"What?"

"You should hate me."

Emily remained silent.

"My family destroyed yours."

A pause.

"I lived in the house they built."

"I benefited from what they did."

His voice became quieter.

"So if you want revenge..."

"I understand."

Emily looked at him for a long moment.

Then she said something he never expected.

"I don't want revenge."

Daniel looked up.

"Why?"

"Because revenge is what destroyed my family."

The words stayed between them.

"My father spent his life trying to build something good."

"He trusted the wrong people."

"He lost everything."

She looked toward the family portraits.

"But he never became like them."

Daniel felt something break inside him.

Because Emily had every reason to become cruel.

And she chose not to.

The next morning, Daniel made his decision.

He called a press conference.

The world expected him to deny everything.

To protect the Anderson name.

To save the company.

Instead, he walked onto the stage and said:

"My family built success through actions that hurt innocent people."

The room exploded.

Reporters shouted questions.

Cameras flashed.

Daniel continued.

"I will not protect a lie because it carries my last name."

Across the city, Victor watched the broadcast.

For the first time

his expression changed.

Not anger.

Surprise.

Because he expected Daniel to choose blood.

He expected him to choose power.

He never expected him to choose truth.

But Victor still had one final weapon.

Before Daniel ended the broadcast

a message appeared on every screen.

A file.

A photograph.

A name.

THOMAS CARTER'S FINAL SECRET

Daniel froze.

Because even after everything

there was still one truth nobody knew.

A truth Thomas Carter had hidden from everyone.

May you like

Including Emily.
