CHAPTER TWELVE

CHAPTER TWELVE
THE BETRAYAL INSIDE THE FAMILY
Julian did not sleep.
He sat alone in the darkened study of the hidden residence, staring at the photograph of his family.
Richard.
His father.
The man who had taught him how to ride a bicycle.
The man who had attended every school ceremony.
The man who had stood beside him on his wedding day.
The man Julian had trusted more than anyone alive.
And now there was only one question burning inside him.
What had Richard done?
Camila's accusation had been devastating.
But Julian refused to accept it without proof.
Not because he still trusted his father.
Because twelve years of marriage had taught him something far more painful.
People could lie.
Documents could be forged.
Memories could be manipulated.
And love could be turned into a weapon.
He needed evidence.
Real evidence.
Something Richard could never explain away.
Behind him, Elena appeared in the doorway.
“You're still awake.”
Julian didn't turn.
“Did you know?”
Elena stopped.
“Know what?”
“That Richard was involved.”
She remained silent.
Julian finally looked at her.
“That silence is an answer.”
Elena walked inside.
“I knew he was dangerous.”
“But not that he was responsible?”
“I suspected.”
“You suspected?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“I didn't have proof.”
Julian stood.
“You could have told me.”
“I tried.”
“When?”
“The night I disappeared.”
Julian froze.
“What did you say?”
“I told you your father couldn't be trusted.”
Julian shook his head.
“I don't remember.”
“You were angry.”
“I thought you were leaving me.”
“I wasn't.”
Elena's voice cracked.
“I was trying to warn you.”
Julian stared at her.
Then an old memory surfaced.
A night eight months ago.
Elena standing in their bedroom.
Crying.
Holding a folder.
Richard calling repeatedly.
Julian remembering only the argument.
He had forgotten what she said.
But now—
he remembered one sentence.
“Your father knows about the baby.”
Julian closed his eyes.
He had ignored her.
Because Richard had already convinced him Elena was unstable.
Julian whispered:
“He made me think you were paranoid.”
“Yes.”
“He made me doubt you.”
“Yes.”
“He made me believe you wanted to leave.”
Elena nodded.
Julian's hands trembled.
“He destroyed our marriage.”
Elena looked at him.
“No.”
She stepped closer.
“He made you destroy it yourself.”
The next morning, Julian returned to the Rossi estate.
He went alone.
The mansion looked exactly as it had for decades.
Beautiful.
Expensive.
Untouchable.
But Julian saw it differently now.
Every painting seemed to hide something.
Every locked door seemed to contain a secret.
Every family photograph felt like evidence.
Richard was waiting in the library.
He stood beside the fireplace.
“Where have you been?”
Julian closed the door.
“Looking for the truth.”
Richard smiled.
“About Elena?”
“About everything.”
Richard poured himself a drink.
“You should be careful.”
“Why?”
“Because some truths destroy families.”
Julian stared at him.
“Maybe this family deserves to be destroyed.”
Richard's hand stopped.
For the first time, fear appeared in his eyes.
Only for a second.
But Julian saw it.
“You know about Aurelia.”
Richard's face hardened.
“Who told you that name?”
Julian smiled coldly.
“Thank you.”
Richard realized his mistake.
“You just confirmed it.”
Richard placed the glass down.
“You don't understand what you're dealing with.”
“Then explain.”
“I was protecting you.”
“By destroying my marriage?”
“By protecting your life.”
“By making me believe my wife abandoned me?”
Richard said nothing.
Julian stepped closer.
“By hiding my children?”
Richard's eyes flickered.
Julian saw it.
“You knew about Luca.”
“Yes.”
“And Amelia.”
“Yes.”
“You knew Elena was pregnant again.”
Richard remained silent.
Julian's voice dropped.
“And you knew about the first child.”
Richard looked away.
Julian felt his stomach turn.
“You did.”
“I had no choice.”
“There is always a choice.”
“Not when Voss is involved.”
Julian slammed his hand against the desk.
“STOP BLAMING VOSS!”
Richard flinched.
“You were the one inside my family.”
Silence.
Julian pulled a folder from his coat.
“I found the original financial records.”
Richard's expression changed.
“The payments to the Grand Alcazar.”
Richard said nothing.
“The forged divorce documents.”
Nothing.
“The security contracts.”
Nothing.
“And the medical records.”
Richard's face became pale.
Julian opened the final file.
“The first child's death.”
Richard's breathing changed.
Julian whispered:
“Tell me what happened.”
Richard sat down.
For the first time in Julian's life—
his father looked old.
Very old.
“I didn't kill him.”
Julian froze.
“But you know who did.”
Richard closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
“Who?”
Richard looked at his son.
“Your mother.”
Julian stared.
“No.”
“She was afraid the child would expose her.”
“My mother was dead.”
“She wasn't.”
Julian's heart stopped.
“What?”
Richard continued:
“She disappeared years ago.”
Julian's mind raced.
“What are you saying?”
“Your mother is alive.”
Silence.
“Where?”
Richard shook his head.
“I don't know.”
“You expect me to believe that?”
“I don't care what you believe.”
Richard stood.
“You need to understand something.”
“What?”
“I didn't destroy your marriage.”
Julian stared.
Richard's voice broke.
“I tried to save it.”
Julian laughed bitterly.
“You made Elena disappear.”
“No.”
“I forged the divorce.”
“No.”
“You hid my children.”
“No.”
Julian froze.
Richard whispered:
“Someone forged my signature too.”
Silence.
“What?”
Richard opened a drawer.
He pulled out a document.
Julian recognized the signature.
His father's.
But beneath it was another signature.
Adrian Voss.
Richard looked at Julian.
“Someone has been using both our names.”
Julian frowned.
“Who?”
Richard didn't answer.
A woman's voice came from behind them.
“I can tell you.”
Julian turned.
Camila stood in the doorway.
Richard's face changed.
“You.”
Camila walked inside.
“You always blamed me.”
Richard stared.
“Because you were working with Voss.”
“I was.”
“And now?”
Camila placed a small recording device on the desk.
“Now I'm working against him.”
Julian looked at her.
“What is that?”
“Proof.”
She pressed play.
Richard's own voice filled the room.
“If Elena discovers the second trust, we lose everything.”
Julian's face hardened.
The recording continued.
“Then make sure she never reaches it.”
Another voice answered.
A woman's voice.
Julian recognized it instantly.
His mother.
“And the child?”
Richard replied:
“The child cannot survive.”
The recording stopped.
Julian couldn't breathe.
He looked at his father.
Richard was crying.
“I didn't mean it literally.”
Julian stared at him.
“You said the child couldn't survive.”
“I meant the inheritance.”
“No.”
“I was trying to scare her.”
“You told someone to kill my child.”
“I never gave that order.”
“Then who did?”
Richard looked at Camila.
She whispered:
“Lauren.”
Julian's sister.
His stomach dropped.
“No.”
Camila nodded.
“Your sister arranged the medical transfer.”
Richard shook his head.
“That's impossible.”
“You signed the authorization.”
“I was drugged.”
Julian stared at him.
“What?”
Richard looked at his son.
“They drugged me.”
“Who?”
“I don't know.”
Camila answered:
“Your family.”
Julian stepped away.
His entire childhood seemed to fracture.
Richard.
Lauren.
His mother.
The family trust.
The children.
Everyone had betrayed everyone.
And yet one thing still bothered him.
“If Lauren was involved, why?”
Camila looked at him.
“Because she wasn't trying to destroy Elena.”
“Then what?”
“She was trying to control the inheritance.”
Julian frowned.
“She believed the trust would pass to her if Elena's children disappeared.”
“And Aurelia?”
“She didn't know about Aurelia.”
Julian's face hardened.
“So someone above Lauren was giving orders.”
Camila nodded.
“Exactly.”
“Who?”
Camila hesitated.
Then said:
“The person you trusted most.”
Julian looked at Richard.
“No.”
Camila shook her head.
“Not him.”
She pointed toward the family portrait.
Toward the woman standing beside Richard.
Julian's mother.
His dead mother.
Julian stared.
“You said she's alive.”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
Camila smiled sadly.
“She never left the family.”
Julian felt the blood drain from his face.
“She's been here?”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
Camila whispered:
“Under this house.”
They descended into the old family basement.
Behind a wine cellar was a hidden passage.
At the end stood a steel door.
Julian entered the code.
The door opened.
Inside was a private office.
Files covered the walls.
Photographs.
Bank records.
Birth certificates.
Medical reports.
And photographs of Elena.
Photographs of Luca.
Photographs of Amelia.
Photographs of Julian.
Taken years before Camila ever entered his life.
Julian picked one up.
It showed Elena leaving a hospital.
She was pregnant.
The date was six years ago.
Julian stared.
“That was before Luca.”
Camila nodded.
“This was your first pregnancy.”
Julian's heart sank.
Another photograph showed Elena crying beside a hospital bed.
Then another.
A tiny infant.
Then a black funeral card.
Julian couldn't breathe.
His first child.
His hands shook.
Then he saw a final photograph.
His mother was standing beside the infant.
Alive.
Smiling.
And holding the child.
Julian whispered:
“She was there.”
“Yes.”
“Then why did she let him die?”
Camila looked at the photograph.
“Because she didn't.”
Julian turned.
“What?”
“The baby didn't die.”
Silence.
Julian's heart stopped.
“What are you saying?”
Camila's voice was barely audible.
“Your first child was taken.”
“By whom?”
She pointed to a folder.
Julian opened it.
Inside was a birth certificate.
A new name.
A new identity.
A new family.
But the biological parents were listed.
Julian Rossi.
Elena Rossi.
Julian stared.
The child had survived.
His first child was alive.
Somewhere.
And someone had spent six years making him believe otherwise.
Then he saw the final line.
Current guardian: Sophia Rossi.
His mother.
Julian dropped the file.
“No.”
Camila nodded.
“Yes.”
“She raised my child?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Camila looked at him.
“Because your mother wanted the inheritance.”
Julian's eyes hardened.
“And the baby?”
Camila whispered:
“Your firstborn is the real key to the trust.”
Julian stood frozen.
Aurelia was the final heir.
Luca was the protected son.
But the first child—
the child everyone believed dead—
had been hidden for six years.
And suddenly Julian understood the terrible truth.
The war had never been about one child.
It had always been about all three.
And somewhere in the world was a child who had grown up believing Julian Rossi was a stranger.
A child who carried his blood.
His name.
And a secret powerful enough to destroy the entire Rossi empire.
Julian closed the folder.
His voice was barely a whisper.
“I'm bringing my child home.”
Behind him, Richard began to cry.
But Julian didn't turn around.
Because for the first time in his life, he no longer cared about saving the Rossi name.
He cared about saving his family.
And somewhere beneath the mansion—
someone was watching them through a hidden camera.
A woman sat in darkness.
She slowly removed her glasses.
It was Sophia Rossi.
Julian's mother.
And beside her sat a six-year-old child.
The child looked up.
“Is Daddy coming?”
Sophia smiled.
“Soon.”
May you like
Then she whispered:
“And when he comes, everything will finally belong to you.”
