Chapter 6 — The Boardroom Execution

THE EMPIRE SHE TOOK BACK
Chapter 6 — The Boardroom Execution
The most dangerous place in the world was not a battlefield.
It was a room full of people pretending they were calm.
The Castle Hospitality boardroom had seen decades of decisions.
Billions of dollars approved.
Companies purchased.
Rivals defeated.
Partnerships created.
But on that morning…
It was not a meeting.
It was an execution.
And everyone in the room knew it.
Marcus Vale arrived twenty minutes early.
That alone told everyone how desperate he was.
The old Marcus never arrived early.
People waited for him.
People adjusted their schedules around him.
People stood when he entered.
That was the life he had built.
Or thought he had built.
Now he sat alone at the end of the long glass table, staring at the empty chair where Isabella would soon sit.
The chair reserved for the person with actual authority.
Not the person with the loudest voice.
Sophia sat beside him.
She looked confident.
Almost too confident.
Marcus noticed.
“You’re sure about this?”
She turned toward him.
“Are you doubting me?”
“No.”
But he was.
Because everything about this plan felt different.
Before, Marcus had fought because he believed he deserved what he lost.
Now he was fighting because he was afraid.
And fear made people reckless.
The door opened.
The board members entered one by one.
Some looked uncomfortable.
Some avoided Marcus’s eyes.
Some nodded politely.
But none of them greeted him like before.
That was the hardest part.
Not losing the title.
Losing the way people treated him when he had it.
Then Isabella entered.
No dramatic entrance.
No anger.
No attempt to prove herself.
She simply walked in.
Black suit.
Simple jewelry.
Calm expression.
She looked exactly like the woman Marcus had underestimated.
And somehow…
That made him nervous.
Because Marcus understood something now.
Isabella never needed to become powerful.
She already was.
“Good morning.”
Her voice was steady.
Everyone responded.
“Good morning, Ms. Castle.”
Marcus noticed.
They called her Ms. Castle.
Not Isabella.
Not Mrs. Vale.
They were already separating her from him.
Isabella sat down.
“Before we begin, I want to make one thing clear.”
Everyone listened.
“This meeting is not about Marcus Vale.”
Marcus smiled slightly.
Interesting.
Then she continued.
“It is about Castle Hospitality.”
The smile disappeared.
Marcus leaned forward.
“Actually, I believe it is about both.”
Isabella looked at him.
“Of course you do.”
A few board members looked down.
They knew.
This was personal.
Marcus placed a folder on the table.
“I believe there are serious questions regarding the legitimacy of current ownership.”
Silence.
Isabella did not react.
“Go on.”
That annoyed him.
He expected fear.
Confusion.
Panic.
Instead, she invited him to continue.
“Castle Hospitality was built through a series of agreements that were never fully disclosed.”
He opened the folder.
“Agreements involving Richard Castle.”
The room became quieter.
Isabella watched him.
“Interesting.”
Marcus smiled.
“You’re not surprised.”
“No.”
That answer shocked him.
“No?”
“No.”
She folded her hands.
“Because I know exactly what you found.”
Marcus stopped.
Only for a second.
But everyone saw it.
Sophia looked between them.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
Marcus continued.
“These documents suggest that Castle Hospitality’s original funding structure included hidden agreements.”
“Yes.”
Isabella nodded.
“It did.”
The board members looked confused.
Marcus frowned.
“You admit it?”
“Of course.”
The confidence in his face disappeared slightly.
“You admit there were hidden agreements?”
“They were private agreements.”
“Private?”
“Yes.”
She looked at him.
“Not secret.”
The room shifted.
That was the difference.
Secret implied wrongdoing.
Private implied protection.
Marcus hated that she controlled the language.
“Then explain.”
Isabella looked at the board.
“I will.”
She opened her own folder.
Not the same one.
A different one.
Larger.
Older.
“This is the original Castle Hospitality foundation agreement.”
Marcus’s face changed.
Because he recognized it.
“That’s impossible.”
“No.”
Isabella calmly placed it on the table.
“It’s real.”
One board member picked it up.
Read.
Then looked at Marcus.
“What exactly is your concern, Mr. Vale?”
Marcus hesitated.
“My concern is that I was misled.”
Isabella looked at him.
“Were you?”
“Yes.”
“By whom?”
He opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
Because the answer was obvious.
Nobody.
Isabella continued.
“When Marcus joined Castle Hospitality, he was given an opportunity.”
She looked around the room.
“Not ownership.”
A pause.
“Opportunity.”
The words landed.
Hard.
“He was given executive authority under conditions designed to protect the company.”
Marcus stood.
“You’re twisting this.”
“No.”
She looked at him.
“I’m explaining it.”
The board members reviewed the documents.
Performance requirements.
Leadership conditions.
Ownership restrictions.
Everything Marcus signed.
Everything he ignored.
One member looked up.
“You were aware of these terms?”
Marcus stayed silent.
“Mr. Vale?”
“Yes.”
His voice became smaller.
“Yes.”
That was the moment.
The moment everyone understood.
Marcus had not been betrayed.
He had simply forgotten.
But Marcus was not finished.
He reached for the second folder.
“Fine.”
He placed another document down.
“Then perhaps we should discuss the other truth.”
Isabella’s expression remained unchanged.
“Go ahead.”
Sophia watched carefully.
This was the moment they planned.
The weapon.
The secret.
The destruction.
Marcus looked around the room.
“For years, everyone believed Castle Hospitality represented honesty.”
He turned toward Isabella.
“But the foundation of this empire contains information the public does not know.”
A pause.
“And if investors discover this…”
He smiled.
“Trust disappears.”
The board members exchanged looks.
Isabella simply asked:
“What information?”
Marcus opened the file.
“The original investors.”
Silence.
“You don’t know who they really were.”
Isabella’s expression changed.
Only slightly.
But Marcus saw it.
And for the first time…
He felt hope.
“Yes.”
He leaned forward.
“Your father built this company with money that came from people who disappeared afterward.”
The room became tense.
Isabella looked at the documents.
Then back at Marcus.
“Is that what you believe?”
“No.”
He smiled.
“I know.”
Sophia watched Isabella carefully.
Waiting for panic.
Waiting for weakness.
But none came.
Instead, Isabella said something unexpected.
“Thank you.”
Marcus froze.
“What?”
“For bringing this here.”
The room went silent.
“You’re welcome?”
“No.”
She looked at him.
“You just saved me time.”
Marcus felt cold.
“What does that mean?”
Isabella pressed a button on the table.
The screen behind her turned on.
A video appeared.
Richard Castle.
From years earlier.
Marcus’s face drained.
Because he recognized the recording.
Richard’s voice filled the room.
“If this information ever becomes public, the person who reveals it must also reveal everything.”
The video continued.
“The source of the funding.”
“The reason behind the agreements.”
“And the people who attempted to manipulate the company.”
The board members looked confused.
Marcus stopped breathing.
Because he understood.
The documents he stole were incomplete.
He had taken the bait.
Isabella looked at him.
“You found my father’s file.”
Marcus said nothing.
“You thought it would destroy us.”
A pause.
“But you never asked why it existed.”
She opened another folder.
Inside were records.
Evidence.
Names.
Transactions.
Everything.
“This was an investigation.”
She looked at Marcus.
“My father discovered corruption among the original investors.”
The room became silent.
“He created protection clauses because he was trying to save the company.”
Marcus stared.
“No.”
“Yes.”
Isabella’s voice remained calm.
“And the person who leaked parts of those records years later…”
She looked directly at him.
“Was connected to you.”
The air disappeared from the room.
Sophia’s expression changed.
“What?”
Marcus turned toward her.
“Don’t.”
But it was too late.
The screen changed.
A name appeared.
A signature.
A transaction.
Marcus Vale.
The boardroom exploded into whispers.
“No.”
Marcus shook his head.
“This is fabricated.”
Isabella looked at him.
“Is it?”
She placed the final document on the table.
“The bank records are real.”
The man who came to destroy Isabella had unknowingly exposed himself.
The secret he wanted to use against her…
Was the secret that would destroy him.
Marcus stood there.
No speech.
No confidence.
No weapon.
For the first time in his life…
He had nothing.
Isabella closed the folder.
“Meeting concluded.”
Nobody moved.
Because everyone understood.
This was not a business meeting.
It was a public execution.
And Marcus Vale had walked into it willingly.
As he left the room, Sophia followed.
But she was no longer smiling.
Because she finally understood.
Marcus had not lost his empire because Isabella took it.
He lost it because he never understood whose empire it was.
Outside the boardroom, Marcus stopped.
His phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
A voice spoke.
“Mr. Vale.”
Marcus frowned.
“Who is this?”
A pause.
Then:
“The person who can still destroy Isabella Castle.”
Marcus looked back at the closed boardroom door.
For the first time all day…
A small smile returned.
Because maybe…
Just maybe…
The war was not over.
But he did not know the person on the other end was not offering help.
They were offering a deal.
May you like
And every deal had a price.
