Chapter 2 – The Brother Who Never Loses

Chapter 2 – The Brother Who Never Loses
The first rule of dealing with Harrison Cole was simple:
Never underestimate his silence.
People who knew Harrison professionally understood that anger was easy to predict.
A loud opponent.
A shouting lawyer.
A desperate businessman.
Those people made mistakes because emotions controlled them.
Harrison was different.
He didn't raise his voice.
He didn't slam tables.
He didn't make threats.
He listened.
He waited.
And then he ended the fight before the other side realized the battle had begun.
For fifteen years, Harrison Cole had built a reputation inside Pennsylvania courtrooms.
Not because he won every case.
Everyone won cases.
It was because of how he won.
He represented companies accused of fraud and made prosecutors question their own evidence.
He defended executives facing criminal charges and uncovered the hidden corruption of the people accusing them.
He once forced a billionaire CEO to confess financial crimes simply by placing three documents on a table and asking one question.
"Would you like to continue lying?"
The CEO confessed thirty seconds later.
The media gave him many names.
The Executioner.
The Surgeon.
The Man Who Never Blinks.
But his sister never called him any of those.
To Khloe...
He was just Harry.
The older brother who used to burn pancakes because he couldn't cook.
The brother who saved money from his first internship to buy her a birthday necklace.
The brother who promised their mother on her deathbed:
"I will protect her."
And now...
Someone had tried to destroy her.
Cole & Associates Law Offices
At 6:00 a.m., Harrison entered his office.
The entire building was already awake.
That alone told everyone how serious the situation was.
Usually, nobody arrived before him.
Today, every attorney, investigator, and assistant was waiting.
His senior associate, Daniel Pierce, stood immediately.
"Harrison."
He placed a thick folder on the desk.
"The courthouse evidence."
Harrison opened it.
Photographs.
Security footage.
Witness statements.
Medical reports.
Everything.
"Timeline."
Daniel began.
"9:12 a.m. Khloe arrives at Montgomery County Courthouse."
"9:18 a.m. Vanessa Kensington enters through the east entrance."
"9:24 a.m. Vanessa approaches Khloe."
"9:26 a.m. Physical confrontation begins."
"9:27 a.m. Khloe falls."
Harrison looked at the page.
"Richard?"
"Arrived eight minutes earlier."
"Alone?"
Daniel hesitated.
"No."
Harrison looked up.
"Who was with him?"
Daniel slid another photograph forward.
A man in a gray suit.
"Marcus Vale."
The name immediately changed the atmosphere.
Harrison leaned back.
"Why do I know that name?"
Daniel answered carefully.
"Because Marcus Vale is one of the best corporate investigators in the country."
"Works for?"
"Mostly private clients."
"Mostly?"
Daniel nodded.
"But his biggest client for the past year..."
A pause.
"Has been Harrington Commercial Group."
Harrison stared at the photograph.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
"Find everything about Marcus Vale."
Daniel nodded.
"Already started."
"No."
Harrison closed the folder.
"Find everything."
"Not just his professional history."
"Family."
"Debts."
"Relationships."
"People he has protected."
"People he has destroyed."
Daniel understood immediately.
Harrison wasn't investigating the attack anymore.
He was investigating the entire machine behind it.
Hospital Room
Khloe looked smaller than Harrison remembered.
That was the first thing he noticed.
Not the bruises.
Not the medical equipment.
Not the exhaustion in her eyes.
She looked smaller.
Like six years of marriage had slowly taken pieces of her away.
"You didn't sleep."
It wasn't a question.
Harrison looked at the coffee in his hand.
"Neither did you."
"I was unconscious."
A faint smile appeared.
Even now...
Even after everything...
She could still make him smile.
He sat beside her.
"The police will file charges today."
Khloe looked down.
"Against Vanessa?"
"Yes."
"And Richard?"
Harrison didn't answer immediately.
She noticed.
"Harry."
His expression changed.
"Richard's involvement is more complicated."
Khloe's face tightened.
"What does that mean?"
"It means he didn't push you."
"But?"
"It means I believe he helped create the situation."
A tear formed in her eyes.
"Why?"
Harrison hated that question.
Because there was no answer that wouldn't hurt.
"He wanted a divorce."
Khloe stared.
"What?"
"He was preparing to leave you."
Her lips parted.
"When?"
"Months ago."
"No..."
Harrison gently placed the folder on the table.
"Khloe."
"No."
She shook her head.
"I was pregnant."
"I know."
"He knew how hard we tried."
"I know."
"He knew what we lost."
"I know."
Her voice broke.
"Then why?"
Harrison looked at her.
"Because Richard stopped seeing you as his wife."
A pause.
"He started seeing you as an obstacle."
The words hurt.
But they were true.
Harrison handed her the tablet.
On the screen were screenshots.
Messages.
Vanessa.
Richard.
Years of betrayal.
Khloe stared.
Every message felt like another wound.
One message caught her attention.
From Richard:
"Once the baby is born, custody won't be difficult. Khloe is emotional. The court will understand."
Khloe covered her mouth.
"He planned this."
Harrison nodded.
"Yes."
Another message appeared.
This one was worse.
Vanessa:
"What if she fights?"
Richard:
"She won't. She never has."
Silence.
That sentence hurt more than the affair.
Because it was true.
Khloe had spent years forgiving.
Waiting.
Understanding.
Hoping.
Richard knew.
He counted on it.
Harrison watched his sister carefully.
Then he said something that surprised her.
"You know what his biggest mistake was?"
Khloe looked at him.
"He thought your kindness meant weakness."
She wiped her tears.
"And what do you think?"
Harrison stood.
"I think he has never met the version of you that doesn't forgive him."
Harrington Commercial Group
Meanwhile...
Richard Harrington was having a very different morning.
His office was surrounded by lawyers.
Public relations specialists.
Executives.
Everyone spoke at once.
The attack had become national news.
Investors were nervous.
The board demanded answers.
"This will pass."
Richard stood at the window.
"They always move on."
His attorney looked uncomfortable.
"Not this time."
Richard turned.
"Why?"
The attorney hesitated.
"Because Harrison Cole is involved."
Richard's expression changed.
"So?"
The attorney gave a humorless smile.
"You really don't understand."
He placed a file on the desk.
"Seven years ago, Harrison dismantled the largest pharmaceutical fraud case in Pennsylvania."
"So?"
"He had no physical evidence when he started."
Richard frowned.
"What did he do?"
"He found the pressure points."
The attorney tapped the file.
"By the end, twelve executives confessed."
"Three companies collapsed."
"And the CEO who started it all..."
He paused.
"He lost everything."
Richard looked away.
"That was business."
"No."
The attorney shook his head.
"This is personal."
The First Move
At 11:30 a.m., Harrison filed the first lawsuit.
Not against Vanessa.
Not against Richard.
Against Harrington Commercial Group.
The accusation:
Fraudulent Asset Transfer.
The financial documents were attached.
Millions moved through shell corporations.
Hidden accounts.
Unauthorized transfers.
Property purchases disguised as business expenses.
Richard received the notification while sitting in a board meeting.
His phone vibrated.
He opened the email.
And his face changed.
"What is it?"
One executive asked.
Richard didn't answer.
Because he saw the name at the bottom.
Harrison Cole.
The message contained only one sentence.
"You spent two years preparing to erase my sister."
"I will spend as long as necessary making sure the world remembers her."
Richard threw the phone onto the table.
"This is a threat."
His lawyer picked it up.
Read it.
Then calmly said:
"No."
"What?"
"It's worse."
Richard stared.
"What could be worse than a threat?"
The lawyer looked at him.
"A promise."
That Evening
Harrison visited Khloe again.
She was awake.
The baby monitor showed their daughter moving.
A tiny heartbeat.
A tiny life.
The reason everything had changed.
"Harry?"
"Yes?"
"What happens now?"
Harrison looked at his sister.
Then at the child she had fought to protect.
"Now?"
He adjusted his suit jacket.
"Now we stop surviving."
A pause.
"Now we fight."
Khloe looked afraid.
Not of Richard.
Of what Harrison might become.
"Promise me something."
"What?"
"Don't become like them."
For a moment...
Harrison said nothing.
Because that was the one question he feared.
How far could he go before justice became revenge?
Finally, he answered.
"I won't."
He looked at her.
"But I will make sure they never hurt you again."
Outside the hospital...
A black sedan waited across the street.
Inside sat Marcus Vale.
The corporate investigator.
The man whose name appeared beside Richard Harrington.
He watched Harrison leave.
Then made a phone call.
"They know."
A voice answered.
"How much?"
"Enough."
A pause.
"Then accelerate the plan."
Marcus looked toward the hospital.
Toward Khloe's room.
Toward the family that had just started a war.
"Are you sure?"
The voice on the phone laughed softly.
"Nobody defeats Harrison Cole."
A pause.
"That's why we don't fight Harrison."
"We destroy what he protects."
Marcus ended the call.
And for the first time...
Harrison Cole faced an enemy who knew exactly where his weakness was.
Not his reputation.
Not his career.
Not his money.
May you like
His sister.
