Chapter 9 – The Secret Behind Vanessa

Chapter 9 – The Secret Behind Vanessa

Vanessa Kensington had spent two years pretending she was the woman who would inherit the Harrington empire.

She believed the designer dresses.

The private dinners.

The luxury apartments.

The promises whispered in hotel rooms.

She believed all of it meant she had finally escaped the life she was born into.

She believed Richard Harrington chose her because she was special.

Because she was younger.

Smarter.

More ambitious.

More exciting.

She was wrong.

The truth was much worse.

Vanessa was never the prize.

She was never the future Mrs. Harrington.

She was never even Richard's greatest mistake.

She was a carefully selected piece on someone else's chessboard.

And now...

She was ready to tell Harrison Cole everything.

The Secret Meeting

The meeting happened in a small private room inside the courthouse.

No cameras.

No reporters.

Only Harrison, Daniel, Vanessa, and her attorney.

Vanessa looked nothing like the woman who had walked into the courthouse months earlier.

The confidence was gone.

The perfect makeup.

The expensive jewelry.

The arrogant smile.

All replaced by exhaustion.

Harrison sat across from her.

"You asked for this meeting."

Vanessa nodded.

"I need protection."

Daniel immediately frowned.

"Protection?"

Vanessa looked at him.

"From the people who put me here."

Harrison remained silent.

"Start talking."

Vanessa took a deep breath.

"Because if I don't..."

She looked toward the locked door.

"They will kill me."

The Woman Behind the Image

Harrison studied her.

"Tell me about yourself."

Vanessa looked confused.

"What?"

"Not the version everyone sees."

A pause.

"The real version."

For the first time, Vanessa hesitated.

"My mother cleaned houses."

She looked down.

"I grew up watching rich people throw away more money in one night than my family earned in a year."

Her voice became bitter.

"I promised myself I would never live like that."

She worked.

Studied.

Built her design career.

Slowly entered wealthy circles.

Then she met Richard.

"He was everything I wanted."

She laughed quietly.

"Powerful. Rich. Respected."

Harrison interrupted.

"Did you love him?"

Vanessa looked away.

"I thought I did."

A pause.

"Until I realized he never loved anyone."

The First Contact

Harrison leaned forward.

"When did Marcus Vale approach you?"

Vanessa's face changed.

"Two years ago."

"Where?"

"A private event in Boston."

Boston.

Again.

"He knew everything about me."

Vanessa said.

"My debts."

"My company problems."

"My ambitions."

"What did he offer?"

"Success."

She smiled sadly.

"The exact thing people like me are willing to destroy themselves for."

Marcus offered investment.

Connections.

Luxury projects.

Everything she needed.

"But there was a condition."

Harrison already knew.

"What?"

"Richard Harrington."

The Assignment

Vanessa explained.

Marcus didn't tell her to destroy Richard's marriage immediately.

No.

That would have been obvious.

He told her to become necessary.

"Make him trust you."

Marcus told her.

"Make him believe you understand him."

"Make him believe Khloe is holding him back."

Vanessa closed her eyes.

"He knew exactly what to say."

"Because he studied Richard."

Harrison said.

Vanessa nodded.

"Richard always wanted approval."

That was the weakness.

Richard Harrington spent his entire life trying to prove he was worthy of the Harrington name.

Marcus understood that.

He fed it.

The Pregnancy

Vanessa looked uncomfortable.

"The baby..."

Harrison noticed.

"What about the baby?"

She hesitated.

"Richard thought it was his."

Silence.

Daniel looked confused.

"What are you saying?"

Vanessa swallowed.

"I don't know."

Harrison's eyes narrowed.

"You don't know?"

Marcus had told her something strange.

A warning.

"One day you may need to prove the child is not the future Harrington heir."

Harrison froze.

"Why?"

Vanessa shook her head.

"I never understood."

Until now.

The Bigger Plan

Harrison stood and walked toward the window.

Everything connected.

Marcus didn't just want Richard ruined.

He wanted the Harrington bloodline destroyed.

Richard's reputation.

The company.

The inheritance.

The child.

Everything.

Daniel spoke quietly.

"So Marcus wanted no heir."

Harrison nodded.

"Exactly."

Vanessa looked at him.

"There's more."

Everyone turned.

"Marcus had another reason."

She reached into her bag.

Removed a small envelope.

"I stole this from him."

Harrison opened it.

Inside was an old document.

A birth certificate.

His expression changed.

The name:

Marcus Alessandro Vale.

Daniel looked shocked.

"Vale was his mother's name."

Harrison nodded.

Then Harrison saw the father's name.

Alessandro Harrington.

The secret was confirmed.

Marcus was Richard's half-brother.

The Forgotten Son

Vanessa continued.

"Marcus hated Richard before he ever met him."

"Why?"

"Because Richard got everything."

She looked at the document.

"While Marcus got erased."

Alessandro Harrington created two families.

One public.

One hidden.

Richard inherited the company.

The mansion.

The name.

The respect.

Marcus inherited nothing.

Only anger.

The Last Conversation

Vanessa pulled out her phone.

"There is one more thing."

She showed Harrison a recording.

Marcus.

Speaking.

His voice filled the room.

"Richard thinks he is the heir."

A pause.

"He isn't."

Another voice:

"What about the child?"

Marcus answered:

"The child is the final mistake."

Harrison's expression turned cold.

Because this was no longer about revenge.

It was elimination.

Harrison's Realization

He walked out of the courthouse.

The city moved around him.

Cars.

People.

Noise.

But all he heard was one sentence.

The child is the final mistake.

He immediately called the hospital.

"Mr. Cole?"

"Where is my sister?"

"Room 814."

"Who is guarding her?"

"Security."

"Replace them."

The nurse hesitated.

"Excuse me?"

"Everyone."

"Mr. Cole, that's not possible."

His voice became deadly calm.

"Then make it possible."

Too Late

But Harrison was already too late.

At the hospital...

Khloe sat alone.

Her hand rested on her stomach.

Talking softly to her daughter.

"You are going to be loved."

She whispered.

"No matter what happens."

The door opened.

She smiled.

"Harry?"

The person entered.

But it wasn't Harrison.

Khloe immediately noticed.

Something was wrong.

The person wore hospital clothing.

Carried medical equipment.

Looked professional.

But Khloe had learned something after months of betrayal.

People could wear any disguise.

"Can I help you?"

She asked.

The person smiled.

"Your brother sent me."

Khloe's expression changed.

Because Harrison would never send anyone without warning.

The stranger stepped closer.

"Mrs. Harrington."

A pause.

"You have caused a lot of problems."

Khloe slowly reached for the emergency button.

The stranger noticed.

And smiled.

"Don't worry."

A whisper.

"After tonight..."

May you like

"There won't be any Harrington heir left to protect."
