CHAPTER 11 – The Trial Of Renata Cole

CHAPTER 11 – The Trial Of Renata Cole

The courtroom was filled before sunrise.

Reporters stood behind the security barriers.

Cameras flashed.

Whispers moved through the crowd like waves.

For months, the public had known only one version of the story.

A beautiful woman.

A powerful billionaire.

A tragic family.

But now the world was about to hear the truth.

Renata Cole was not the victim.

She was the woman accused of destroying a child’s life.

The courthouse doors opened at 8:15 a.m.

Renata walked inside wearing a simple black suit.

No diamonds.

No designer dress.

No carefully constructed image.

But she still carried herself like someone who believed she was untouchable.

Because Renata Cole had spent her entire life surviving by one method.

Control.

And today, she planned to control the courtroom.

Grant Callahan sat in the front row.

Beside him sat Emma.

Behind them were Marcus, Daniel, and several investigators.

Lily was not there.

Grant had refused.

The world would not watch his daughter relive her pain for entertainment.

Not again.

The judge entered.

Everyone stood.

"Case number 45892."

"The State versus Renata Cole."

Renata looked toward Grant.

A small smile appeared.

Almost confident.

Because she knew something.

The truth could hurt people.

But evidence won cases.

And she believed she had enough lies to survive.

The prosecutor, Helen Carter, stood.

"Your Honor, this case is not simply about assault."

She looked at the jury.

"This case is about a calculated attempt to destroy an innocent child."

Renata's lawyer immediately objected.

"Argumentative."

"Overruled."

The prosecutor continued.

"For years, the defendant presented herself as a caring future stepmother."

"Behind closed doors, she manipulated, threatened, and harmed a seven-year-old girl."

The courtroom became silent.

The first witness was called.

Emma Bennett.

Renata's expression changed slightly.

Because Emma was not supposed to matter.

She was only the maid.

The employee.

The person Renata believed nobody would believe.

Emma walked to the stand.

She looked nervous.

But she didn't look afraid.

After taking the oath, the prosecutor approached.

"Ms. Bennett."

"How long did you work for the Callahan family?"

"Six months."

"And during that time, what was your relationship with Lily Callahan?"

Emma looked toward Grant.

Then answered.

"I cared for her."

The prosecutor nodded.

"Did you ever see Renata Cole hurt Lily?"

The defense immediately objected.

"Leading."

The judge allowed the question.

Emma took a breath.

"Yes."

A murmur spread through the courtroom.

"Describe what happened."

Emma's hands tightened.

"She was preparing Lily for a charity event."

"Renata used a heated styling tool."

"She burned Lily's hair."

The prosecutor showed a photograph.

The damaged section of Lily's hair.

Several jurors looked away.

"Why did you intervene?"

Emma answered immediately.

"Because Lily was scared."

The defense attorney stood.

"Ms. Bennett."

His voice became sharp.

"You assaulted my client."

Emma didn't look away.

"Yes."

The courtroom reacted.

She continued.

"Because she was hurting a child."

The defense smiled.

"So you admit you attacked her?"

"I admit I stopped her."

A small difference.

But an important one.

The second witness was Marcus Hale.

The estate security chief.

He brought the evidence that changed everything.

The hidden footage.

The courtroom watched silently as the video played.

Renata.

The bathroom.

The styling wand.

The threat.

Every second.

Every word.

No one could explain it away.

The prosecutor paused the video.

"Mrs. Cole."

Renata looked up.

"Do you deny this footage?"

Her lawyer stood.

"We dispute the circumstances."

The prosecutor smiled.

"Of course."

Then she pressed a button.

A second video appeared.

Renata entering the bathroom earlier that day.

Alone.

Preparing the tools.

Checking the temperature.

Waiting.

The courtroom went silent.

Because it destroyed the last possible defense.

It was not an accident.

It was planned.

Renata's confidence finally cracked.

Then came the witness nobody expected.

Dr. Samuel Voss.

The psychiatrist who had treated Lily.

The man who disappeared.

The doors opened.

Every head turned.

Grant stood.

Because he knew.

This man was connected to everything.

Dr. Voss looked older.

Tired.

Broken.

He walked to the witness stand.

The prosecutor approached.

"Dr. Voss."

"Did Renata Cole pay you?"

The courtroom exploded.

Renata's face changed.

"That's a lie!"

The judge struck the gavel.

"Order!"

Dr. Voss looked down.

Then nodded.

"Yes."

A silence.

"I was paid."

"To do what?"

His voice became barely audible.

"To convince Grant Callahan that Lily could not remember the accident."

Grant closed his eyes.

Even though he already knew...

Hearing it still hurt.

"Did Lily remember?"

Dr. Voss looked toward Grant.

"Yes."

"She remembered everything."

The courtroom was silent.

"Why did you participate?"

The doctor looked ashamed.

"Because Thomas threatened my family."

Then he revealed the final piece.

"The night of Amelia Callahan's accident..."

"I was there."

Grant froze.

"What?"

Dr. Voss swallowed.

"I arrived after the crash."

"Amelia was alive."

"She told me Lily had witnessed what happened."

The prosecutor stepped closer.

"Did Amelia survive?"

The doctor hesitated.

Then:

"Yes."

A wave of shock moved through the courtroom.

"Where is she now?"

Dr. Voss looked toward Grant.

"I don't know."

"But I know who took her."

Everyone waited.

The doctor whispered:

"Thomas Callahan."

The courtroom erupted.

The trial that began with Renata Cole...

Had become something much larger.

A murder investigation.

A conspiracy.

A family war.

But before the judge could dismiss the court...

A court officer rushed inside.

He whispered something to the prosecutor.

Her face changed.

She looked toward Grant.

"Mr. Callahan..."

Everyone turned.

"What happened?"

The prosecutor slowly answered.

"We found Amelia Callahan."

Grant stood immediately.

"Where?"

A pause.

"Alive."

The entire courtroom froze.

Then came the words that changed everything.

"But she is not alone."

Grant's expression changed.

"Who is with her?"

The prosecutor looked at the file.

Then whispered:

May you like

"Thomas Callahan."
