CHAPTER 4 â The Video Hidden In The Walls

CHAPTER 4 â The Video Hidden In The Walls
The Callahan estate had always been full of cameras.
That was the irony.
For years, Grant Callahan had spent millions making sure every entrance, hallway, and gate was monitored.
The house was protected like a fortress.
Nothing entered without permission.
Nothing left without being recorded.
And yet...
Something terrible had happened right under his roof.
A child had been afraid.
A woman had been lying.
A murder had been hidden.
All while dozens of cameras watched silently.
Grant stood in the security room at three in the morning.
The room was dark except for the glow of dozens of monitors.
Marcus Hale stood beside him.
The estate security chief had worked for the Callahan family for twelve years.
He had protected Grant.
Protected Amelia.
Protected Lily.
Now, for the first time, he looked ashamed.
"I should have seen it."
Marcus said quietly.
Grant didn't look away from the screens.
"No."
Marcus frowned.
"I was responsible for security."
Grant shook his head.
"I was responsible for my daughter."
The words hung between them.
Because they both knew the truth.
Everyone had failed Lily.
Daniel Brooks entered carrying a folder.
"Found something."
Grant turned immediately.
"About Thomas?"
Daniel shook his head.
"Not yet."
He placed the folder on the table.
"About the house."
Marcus opened it.
His expression changed.
"What is this?"
Daniel pointed to the documents.
"Original construction plans for the Callahan estate."
Grant frowned.
"Why would you look at construction plans?"
"Because of something Renata said."
"What?"
Daniel opened another page.
"She knew exactly where the blind spots were."
A silence.
"Security footage doesn't show everything."
Marcus immediately became defensive.
"There are no blind spots."
Daniel looked at him.
"According to the updated system."
He tapped the old plans.
"But this house was built twenty-five years ago."
A pause.
"There are spaces in the original design that were never documented in the digital system."
Grant understood.
"Hidden rooms."
Daniel nodded.
"Hidden spaces."
The search began before sunrise.
Every wall.
Every hallway.
Every unused room.
The Callahan estate had secrets.
And now they were opening them one by one.
At nine in the morning, Marcus called.
"Mr. Callahan."
Something in his voice made Grant immediately move.
"Where are you?"
"The west hallway."
Grant, Daniel, and Emma followed.
They reached an old section of the mansion.
A corridor that had not been used since Amelia's death.
The walls were decorated with paintings.
Family portraits.
Generations of Callahans.
Marcus stood beside a large painting.
Behind it was a small opening.
"A camera?"
Grant asked.
Marcus nodded.
"Not connected to the main system."
Daniel looked at the device.
"Someone installed this secretly."
Grant felt cold.
"How long has it been here?"
Marcus examined it.
"Years."
A horrible thought appeared.
Someone had been watching.
Not recently.
For years.
They followed the hidden wiring.
Behind the wall.
Through the old structure.
Until they reached a small hidden room.
It was barely large enough for one person.
Inside:
A monitor.
A recording device.
Several storage drives.
And hundreds of hours of footage.
Nobody spoke.
Because everyone understood.
Someone had been spying on the Callahan family.
Daniel turned on the system.
The screen flickered.
The first video appeared.
Date:
Three years earlier.
Before Amelia died.
The camera showed the Callahan dining room.
Grant watched himself.
Younger.
Happier.
Amelia sat beside him.
Lily was only four years old.
A normal family dinner.
For a moment...
Grant almost looked away.
It hurt too much.
Then someone entered.
Thomas.
Grant froze.
His brother sat across from Amelia.
The audio was unclear.
Daniel enhanced it.
Static.
Then voices.
Thomas:
"You can't tell him."
Amelia:
"Grant deserves to know."
Grant stopped breathing.
"What is this?"
Nobody answered.
The video continued.
Thomas leaned closer.
"If you tell him, everything falls apart."
Amelia looked angry.
"The company? The money?"
A pause.
"Or your plan?"
Grant stepped closer to the screen.
His hands began shaking.
Because he knew that tone.
That was not a business conversation.
That was a threat.
The video jumped forward.
Another date.
One month before Amelia's death.
The camera showed Thomas meeting Renata.
Grant's face changed.
Because he had never introduced them.
Never.
Yet there they were.
Together.
Renata handed Thomas a folder.
Thomas said:
"Once Amelia is gone, everything becomes easier."
Emma covered her mouth.
Grant went completely still.
Because hearing the words was different from suspecting.
This was proof.
The video continued.
Thomas looked toward the camera.
And suddenly stopped.
His eyes moved directly toward it.
Like he knew someone was watching.
Then he walked closer.
Closer.
Until his face filled the screen.
And he smiled.
A cold smile.
Then he said:
"If anyone ever finds this..."
The room froze.
"It means I made a mistake."
A pause.
"And if Grant is watching..."
Thomas looked directly into the camera.
"Brother..."
"You were always too emotional to run this family."
Grant stepped backward.
Daniel looked at him.
"Grant..."
But Thomas continued.
"You always believed love made people stronger."
A smile.
"It doesn't."
"It makes them weak."
The screen went black.
Nobody moved.
For several seconds, the only sound was the machine humming.
Then Lily appeared at the doorway.
Nobody had noticed her arrive.
She was holding Mr. Buttons.
Her eyes were fixed on the dark screen.
"Daddy?"
Grant immediately turned.
"Lily, you shouldn't be here."
But she didn't move.
She looked terrified.
Then she pointed at the screen.
"I know him."
Grant froze.
"Who?"
Her fingers trembled.
"The man."
A pause.
"The man who was with Mommy."
Emma knelt beside her.
"Lily..."
The little girl shook her head.
"No."
Her voice became stronger.
"I remember."
Everyone watched.
Because this was the first time Lily had spoken about that night willingly.
"He came to our house."
Grant felt his heart tighten.
"Who came?"
Lily looked at him.
And whispered:
"Uncle Thomas."
The room became silent.
Then Lily said the words that shattered the last piece of Grant's denial.
"He told Mommy..."
She hugged Mr. Buttons tighter.
"He was going to take everything."
That night, Thomas Callahan received a message.
A single text.
We found the room.
He stared at the screen.
For a long time.
Then he smiled.
Not with fear.
With anger.
Because Thomas Callahan had spent years planning.
And he knew something Grant did not.
The video was not the only thing hidden in the walls.
There was another secret.
One that could destroy Grant completely.
May you like
And Thomas was ready to reveal it.
