Chapter 2: The Woman Who Stole the Truth

Chapter 2: The Woman Who Stole the Truth
The Villaseñor mansion had never felt so silent.
Not even during the darkest nights.
Not even when Diego lost his father.
Not even when business wars threatened to destroy everything he built.
Because silence was easier when he knew the enemy.
This was different.
This silence carried memories.
Three years of them.
Three years of a little girl walking through his home.
Three years of a woman he once loved hiding the biggest truth of his life.
Diego stood in his office staring at the old photograph on his desk.
It was a picture he had forgotten existed.
Marisol.
Young.
Smiling.
Before everything fell apart.
Before lies separated them.
Before their daughter was born.
His fingers tightened around the frame.
A knock interrupted his thoughts.
“Come in.”
Marisol entered slowly.
Valentina was asleep upstairs with one of the servants watching her.
For the first time in years, Marisol walked into Diego’s office as an equal.
Not as an employee.
Not as someone who had to lower her eyes.
But as the woman who carried the truth he had been denied.
Diego did not ask her to sit.
Neither of them was ready for comfort.
Not yet.
“I want to hear everything.”
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
Marisol nodded.
“I know.”
“Start from the beginning.”
She took a deep breath.
“The night you left.”
Diego’s expression changed.
“I didn’t leave.”
“I know that now.”
“But that is what I believed.”
She looked down.
“After I found out I was pregnant, I was scared.”
A small, sad smile appeared.
“I wasn’t scared of having a baby.”
“I was scared of having one without you.”
Diego looked away.
The words hurt.
“I came to your office because I wanted to tell you in person.”
“You said you wanted honesty.”
“I wanted to give you that.”
A pause.
“But I never reached you.”
Diego walked toward the window.
“Camila stopped you.”
Marisol looked surprised.
“Yes.”
His jaw tightened.
“What exactly did she say?”
Marisol closed her eyes.
Remembering still hurt.
“She told me you were meeting important investors.”
“She told me your family would never accept someone like me.”
“She said you were embarrassed by our relationship.”
Diego turned.
“She said that?”
Marisol nodded.
“She told me you had already chosen your future.”
A pause.
“Someone from your world.”
Diego felt anger rise.
Because those words sounded nothing like him.
But they sounded exactly like someone who wanted Marisol to disappear.
“Why didn’t you call me?”
Marisol looked at him.
“I did.”
The answer surprised him.
“Hundreds of times.”
“What?”
“I called your office.”
“I called your personal number.”
“I sent messages.”
“Nothing reached you.”
Diego slowly reached for his phone.
“Impossible.”
He searched through old records.
Then stopped.
His face changed.
“What?”
Marisol watched him.
“Diego?”
He looked at the screen.
Thousands of old messages had been archived.
Messages he never saw.
Because someone had changed the settings on his account.
His assistant.
Camila.
“No.”
He whispered.
But the evidence was there.
Three years ago.
The week Marisol disappeared.
Camila accessed his personal accounts.
Changed communication permissions.
Deleted notifications.
Diego stepped back.
“She stole them.”
Marisol looked confused.
“What?”
“My messages.”
His voice became colder.
“She stole the truth from both of us.”
That night, Diego called his security team.
“Find Camila Reyes.”
The response came quickly.
“She left the country two years ago.”
“Where?”
A pause.
“Spain.”
Diego narrowed his eyes.
“Why?”
The security officer hesitated.
“There is something else.”
“Tell me.”
“Before she left, she received a large payment.”
“From who?”
The answer made the room colder.
“Paulina Robles.”
Diego said nothing.
Because suddenly everything connected.
Paulina had not simply appeared in his life.
She had arrived after someone removed Marisol from it.
Someone had created an empty space.
And Paulina stepped into it.
Meanwhile, upstairs...
Paulina stood in front of the mirror.
Her reflection looked perfect.
But her hands were shaking.
The wedding ring on her finger suddenly felt heavier.
She had planned everything.
The engagement.
The public image.
The future.
But she never planned for Marisol returning.
She never planned for Valentina being Diego’s daughter.
She never planned for Diego looking at another woman with the same love he once had.
A knock came.
Paulina turned.
A man entered.
“Everything is falling apart.”
Paulina looked at him.
“You said this would never happen.”
The man remained calm.
“Because I believed Camila had destroyed all evidence.”
Paulina’s expression hardened.
“Then fix it.”
The man smiled slightly.
“You still don't understand, Paulina.”
“What?”
“You are not fighting Marisol.”
A pause.
“You are fighting the truth.”
The next morning, Diego made a decision.
He canceled his wedding plans.
The announcement shocked everyone.
The billionaire heir.
The most desired bachelor in Mexico.
The wedding of the year.
Canceled.
The reason was simple.
“I discovered my life was built on lies.”
The statement spread everywhere.
But Diego did not care about the public reaction.
He cared about one thing.
The little girl sitting at his breakfast table.
His daughter.
Valentina dipped a piece of bread into her milk and looked up.
“Are you going somewhere?”
Diego smiled softly.
“No.”
“Are you leaving?”
The question hit him.
Because he understood where it came from.
A child who had learned abandonment before learning trust.
Diego reached across the table.
“No, Valentina.”
“I’m not leaving.”
“Never?”
“Never.”
She smiled.
But Diego knew a promise was not enough.
He had to prove it.
Every day.
For the rest of her life.
That afternoon, new evidence arrived.
A file from Camila’s old records.
Inside was a message.
One sentence.
“The child cannot be allowed to carry the Villaseñor name.”
Signed:
Paulina Robles.
Diego stared at the document.
His hands tightened.
Because now he knew.
This was not only about a stolen relationship.
It was about someone trying to erase his daughter’s existence.
And the woman who wanted to become his wife...
May you like
Had been the person who tried to make sure he never knew he was a father.
