CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER 6

The Woman Behind the Diamonds

The name of the traitor was not spoken immediately.

That was the first sign that something was wrong.

When Alessandro Moretti discovered betrayal, he usually demanded answers before the person involved had time to breathe.

But this time...

Nobody moved.

Nobody wanted to be the first person to say it.

Because some names carried memories.

Some names carried history.

And some names were impossible to believe.

Alessandro stood in the security room of Villa Moretti.

The walls were covered with screens.

Every hallway.

Every entrance.

Every corner of the mansion.

The place where his family was supposed to be protected.

The place where someone had allowed an enemy inside.

Luca stood beside him.

His expression was grim.

"Say it."

Luca remained silent.

"Who?"

A long pause.

Then:

"Marco."

The room went quiet.

Marco Bellini.

Alessandro's security chief.

The man who had worked for him for twelve years.

The man who knew every camera.

Every guard rotation.

Every emergency protocol.

The man who had once taken a bullet for Alessandro.

"No."

The word came from Clara.

Everyone looked at her.

She shook her head.

"Marco wouldn't."

Alessandro looked at the screen.

"That is what makes betrayal dangerous."

The footage played.

At first, nothing.

A normal night.

Guards changing positions.

Employees walking through halls.

Then...

Marco appeared.

Entering the east wing.

Entering Daniel Romano's old room.

Opening the locked door.

Clara covered her mouth.

"No."

The footage continued.

Marco removed something from the room.

A small envelope.

Then he looked directly at the camera.

Not accidentally.

Not unknowingly.

Directly.

Like he knew someone would watch later.

Alessandro stared.

"Pause."

The image froze.

Marco's face filled the screen.

A man who had stood beside him for years.

A man who knew his weaknesses.

A man who knew Emma existed.

"Find him."

Luca nodded.

But before anyone could move...

A voice came from behind them.

"You don't have to."

Everyone turned.

Marco stood at the entrance.

No weapon.

No escape attempt.

Just exhaustion.

Alessandro's hand moved toward his gun.

"Why?"

Marco looked at him.

And for the first time in twelve years...

He looked ashamed.

"Because I failed."

"You allowed someone into my house."

"Yes."

"You exposed Emma."

"Yes."

"You betrayed me."

Marco lowered his head.

"Yes."

The honesty was almost worse.

Alessandro stepped closer.

"Who paid you?"

Marco shook his head.

"No one."

"Then why?"

The older man looked toward the stairs.

Toward Emma's room.

"Because I thought I was protecting her."

Nobody understood.

"Explain."

Marco took a breath.

"Fifteen years ago, I knew Daniel Romano."

Alessandro froze.

"Everyone did."

"No."

Marco looked at him.

"Not like I did."

He reached into his coat.

Slowly.

Carefully.

He removed an old photograph.

Daniel.

Marco.

A young Alessandro.

And another person.

A woman.

The same woman.

The woman with the Thorn Circle tattoo.

"Her name is Isabella Romano."

Clara went pale.

"Daniel's sister."

Marco nodded.

"His older sister."

Alessandro looked at him.

"She is alive."

"Yes."

"She entered my home."

"Yes."

"And you helped her?"

Marco closed his eyes.

"Yes."

The room became colder.

"Why?"

Marco looked broken.

"Because she showed me something."

"What?"

"Proof."

"Of what?"

Marco swallowed.

"That Daniel Romano was never killed by enemies."

Alessandro's expression changed.

"What are you saying?"

Marco looked directly at him.

"Daniel was killed by someone inside his own family."

Clara stepped back.

"No."

Marco looked at her sadly.

"You deserve the truth."

Before he could continue, the doors opened.

Vivian Romano entered.

Everyone turned.

She looked different.

Not afraid.

Not surprised.

Calm.

Too calm.

Her blonde hair was perfect.

Her diamond necklace reflected the light.

Every piece of jewelry on her seemed designed to announce power.

But Alessandro noticed something else.

The necklace.

A small symbol engraved on the clasp.

A circle.

Three thorns.

His eyes narrowed.

"Take off the necklace."

Vivian smiled.

"Still giving orders, Alessandro?"

"Take it off."

She laughed softly.

"Do you know what your problem has always been?"

Nobody answered.

"You think power means knowing everything."

She touched the necklace.

"But powerful people are often the easiest to manipulate."

Clara stared at her.

"You knew Daniel."

Vivian looked at her.

"Of course."

"Who are you?"

The smile disappeared.

For the first time...

The mask cracked.

"My name is Vivian Romano."

Silence.

Emma Romano.

Daniel Romano.

Isabella Romano.

And now...

Vivian Romano.

Another piece of the family that was supposed to be dead.

Alessandro looked at Marco.

"You knew."

Marco nodded.

"I suspected."

"You let her come here."

"I needed proof."

Alessandro's anger rose.

"You used my home as a battlefield."

Marco accepted it.

"Yes."

"You put Emma at risk."

"I know."

Then Vivian spoke.

"You still don't understand."

Alessandro turned.

"What?"

She looked toward the stairs.

Toward Emma.

"The girl is not just Daniel's daughter."

Clara immediately moved.

"Don't."

Vivian smiled.

"She deserves to know."

Alessandro stepped between them.

"Careful."

For the first time, Vivian looked uncertain.

Because everyone knew one thing.

Alessandro Moretti could tolerate threats against himself.

But not against Emma.

"What is Emma?"

Vivian smiled.

"She is the last heir."

"To what?"

"The Romano empire."

Alessandro stared.

"The Romano empire ended."

"No."

Vivian touched the necklace.

"It went underground."

She walked closer.

"Daniel wanted to destroy it."

"Why?"

"Because he fell in love."

A pause.

"And love made him weak."

Clara's face tightened.

"You killed him."

Vivian looked at her.

"I didn't."

"Then who?"

Vivian smiled.

"The same person who killed your husband."

Everyone waited.

Vivian turned toward Alessandro.

"The person who ordered Daniel's death..."

"...was your father."

The sentence hit like a weapon.

Alessandro didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Didn't speak.

Because the impossible had happened again.

First, his father knew Emma existed.

Now...

His father might have been responsible for Daniel's death.

That night, Alessandro stood alone in his father's old office.

Looking at old photographs.

Old memories.

Old lies.

He had spent years believing his enemies were outside.

But what if the greatest betrayal...

Had been inherited?

Meanwhile, in another room...

Emma sat with Clara.

Holding Mr. Bunny.

"Mommy?"

"Yes?"

"Is Alessandro sad?"

Clara looked toward the hallway.

"Yes."

"Why?"

She struggled to answer.

Because the truth was too heavy for a child.

Finally, she said:

"Because sometimes people discover that the people they loved were not who they thought they were."

Emma hugged her rabbit.

Then whispered:

"Maybe he needs a family."

And somewhere deep inside Villa Moretti...

A man who had never cried for himself...

Was standing in front of his father's portrait.

Trying to understand how the person who taught him loyalty...

May you like

Could have been the one who destroyed everything.
