“You're my sister?”
She nodded.
“Your younger sister.”
Alexander's face had gone pale.
“How?”
Sofia smiled.

Ethan stared at the crescent-shaped mark beneath her sleeve.
The same mark Lily carried.
The same mark Amelia had once shown him in an old photograph.
“Who is your mother?”
Sofia's smile disappeared.
“You already know.”

Samuel sighed.

“That sounds exactly like what Amelia said.”
Samuel looked at him.
“Amelia was right.”
“Then why didn't she tell me?”
“Because she didn't trust you.”

Samuel continued.

Sofia walked toward the doctor's table.
She placed a small metal box on it.

He looked at Samuel.
“Who is this?”
“You.”

Samuel opened another file.

Ethan.

Gabriel.
Sofia.
At the bottom was a fifth line.

Ethan stared.
“What does this mean?”
Samuel answered:
“Lily represents natural inheritance.”
“Emma represents artificial modification.”
“Sofia represents controlled mutation.”
“And you…”
He pointed at Ethan.

Ethan looked at the charts.
“So Richard needed all four.”
“Yes.”

No sign of the bullet wound.
