Chapter 13 – Sarah's Reconstruction

Chapter 13 – Sarah's Reconstruction
A crime scene is never truly silent.
Even after the blood has been cleaned.
Even after the people have gone home.
Even after the walls are repainted and the furniture is replaced...
The scene remains.
It leaves behind questions.
A broken object.
A strange mark.
A detail someone ignored.
A moment frozen forever.
Sarah Chen had learned this long before she became involved with the Lawson family.
The first version of a story is usually the one people want you to believe.
The second version is the one they fear.
And the third version...
The third version is the truth.
The eastern balcony was sealed again.
Not because it was forgotten.
Because now it was evidence.
The police had removed Richard Lawson's recording device, the letter, and every trace of the hidden compartment.
But Sarah remained.
Standing alone.
Looking at the place where Bridget Lawson nearly died.
Everyone had asked the same question.
Who pushed Bridget?
But Sarah knew the question was incomplete.
A fall was not one moment.
It was a sequence.
A chain.
A series of decisions made seconds before gravity took over.
She closed her eyes.
And rebuilt the night.
7:10 PM.
The birthday party was at its peak.
Music.
Guests.
Cameras.
Champagne.
A perfect celebration.
But above the crowd...
The terrace was already prepared.
Sarah walked across the stone floor.
She imagined the missing pieces.
The woman in white arriving early.
The disabled camera.
The hidden recorder.
Tyler meeting someone in the shadows.
Then Bridget arrived.
Carrying the evidence.
The foundation documents.
The truth about Alexander.
Sarah stopped beside the railing.
The exact place where Bridget fell.
"No."
She whispered.
Something was wrong.
She looked at the railing again.
Then at the photographs.
Then at the medical report.
Bridget had not simply been pushed.
That was too simple.
The evidence showed something more complicated.
Sarah called Grant.
"Come to the terrace."
Ten minutes later, the detective arrived.
"What did you find?"
Sarah pointed toward the railing.
"I think we've been reconstructing the wrong crime."
Grant looked confused.
"What do you mean?"
"The question isn't how Bridget went over."
She looked at him.
"It's why."
Sarah explained.
Tyler had a motive.
Alexander had a motive.
Victoria had secrets.
Everyone around Bridget had reasons to want control.
But the evidence showed something unusual.
"If Tyler wanted Bridget dead..."
She pointed.
"He wouldn't have pushed her here."
Grant studied the area.
"Why?"
"Because this terrace doesn't guarantee death."
She showed him the medical report.
"Bridget survived because she landed on the lower stone platform."
Grant nodded.
"By chance."
Sarah shook her head.
"No."
She walked toward the railing.
"By design."
Everyone had assumed the terrace was a place to kill someone.
But Sarah saw something else.
A place to stage something.
"Tyler knew the layout."
She continued.
"He grew up here."
Grant listened carefully.
"If he wanted Bridget gone permanently, he would have chosen a different method."
"So what was the fall?"
Sarah looked toward the garden below.
"A message."
The idea changed everything.
Tyler had not pushed Bridget to kill her.
He had pushed her because someone else was watching.
Someone who needed to believe Bridget was powerless.
Grant frowned.
"You're saying Tyler intentionally caused the fall?"
Sarah nodded.
"But not for the reason we thought."
They reviewed the recovered security footage again.
This time, they watched Tyler's body language.
Not his actions.
The moment before Bridget fell.
Tyler looked toward the far corner of the terrace.
Not at Bridget.
Not at the documents.
At someone hidden.
Grant paused the footage.
"There."
Sarah nodded.
"Tyler wasn't alone."
They enhanced the image.
A shadow.
A reflection in the glass doors.
Someone standing inside the mansion.
Watching.
The person was not Victoria.
Not Alexander.
Not a stranger.
It was Lily.
Everyone froze.
"She was there?"
Grant whispered.
Sarah nodded.
"She saw everything."
They found Lily that evening.
She had been staying at a friend's house under police protection.
When Grant showed her the footage, she became silent.
"You were on the terrace."
Lily looked down.
"I wasn't supposed to be."
Sarah sat beside her.
"Why?"
The young woman struggled to answer.
"Because Tyler called me."
Grant looked surprised.
"When?"
"Before the party."
"What did he say?"
Lily closed her eyes.
"He said I needed to see the truth."
She explained.
Tyler had discovered Alexander planned to confront Bridget.
He knew Alexander wanted the foundation documents.
He knew Bridget was in danger.
"But he couldn't expose Alexander directly."
"Why?"
"Because Alexander had people everywhere."
Lily looked at Sarah.
"Tyler said the only way to destroy him was to make him reveal himself."
Sarah understood.
The fall.
The accusation.
The evidence.
The chaos.
Tyler had created a moment Alexander couldn't control.
But something went wrong.
"What?"
Lily's face changed.
"He wasn't supposed to push her that hard."
Silence.
Grant leaned forward.
"What do you mean?"
Lily looked terrified.
"Tyler and I planned it."
Everyone froze.
She explained.
Tyler told her he needed witnesses.
He needed Alexander to believe Bridget was isolated.
He needed the documents to become public.
"The plan was for Tyler to grab Bridget's arm."
Lily whispered.
"She would scream."
"Guests would come."
"The police would investigate."
"But she fell."
Lily nodded.
"Someone changed the plan."
Sarah immediately understood.
The missing piece.
The reason the fall didn't fit.
Someone else interfered.
Someone stronger.
Someone who wanted Bridget injured.
"Who?"
Grant asked.
Lily looked toward the door.
Her face turned pale.
"Victoria."
The room went silent.
"Victoria Hale changed the plan?"
Sarah asked.
Lily nodded.
"She was the one who told Tyler what to do."
"Why?"
Lily whispered:
"Because Victoria knew Alexander would never stop."
A new piece of evidence arrived moments later.
A message recovered from Tyler's phone.
Sent two minutes before Bridget fell.
From Victoria Hale.
Do not hesitate. Make it look real.
Sarah stared at the screen.
The entire case had changed.
Tyler was guilty.
But not in the way everyone thought.
Victoria was not a protector.
Not completely.
She had manipulated everyone.
Bridget.
Tyler.
Lily.
Even Alexander.
Because Victoria had her own plan.
And Sarah finally understood the real mystery.
The fall was never designed to hide a murder.
It was designed to expose a monster.
But someone else had used that moment...
To start a war.
The woman in white had been watching from the beginning.
Now Sarah knew her name.
Victoria Hale.
And the next question was the most dangerous one yet:
May you like
What did Victoria want?
