Chapter 8 – Vanessa’s Real Plan

Chapter 8 – Vanessa’s Real Plan

The first thing Alessandro Moretti did after learning the truth about Victor was something nobody expected.

He did not confront him.

He did not call the police.

He did not destroy him publicly.

He did something much more dangerous.

He waited.

I had spent enough time around Alessandro to understand one thing.

When people thought he was losing control...

That was when he was most in control.

Everyone expected revenge.

Everyone expected anger.

But Alessandro understood something most powerful people forgot.

A wounded enemy was dangerous.

A confident enemy was careless.

For the next forty-eight hours, the Moretti empire appeared to be falling.

And that was exactly what Alessandro wanted people to believe.

The news continued attacking him.

Investors continued withdrawing.

Board members continued demanding explanations.

Anonymous sources continued leaking information.

Everywhere the same story appeared:

ALessandro Moretti was losing his father's empire.

But behind closed doors...

The real investigation had begun.

The first person they focused on was Vanessa.

Not because she was the biggest threat.

Because she was the doorway.

She had entered the Moretti family carrying lies.

But nobody knew how deep those lies went.

Her official story was simple.

A beautiful woman from a wealthy family.

A successful socialite.

A woman who fell in love with one of America's most powerful men.

A woman who made one terrible mistake.

That was the story she wanted people to believe.

But Alessandro had discovered something else.

The woman named Vanessa Cole had almost never existed.

"Her entire identity was constructed."

Marco placed the file on Alessandro's desk.

I stood beside him.

The pages were filled with information.

Birth records.

Financial documents.

Employment history.

Travel records.

Everything that built a person.

Except Vanessa had too many gaps.

"She wasn't born Vanessa Cole."

Alessandro looked at the photograph.

The woman smiling beside him at charity events.

The woman holding his arm.

The woman pretending to love him.

"Her real name is Vanessa Bell."

Marco nodded.

"Anthony Bell's daughter."

I looked at the documents.

"So she came here because of revenge."

Alessandro shook his head.

"Partly."

"Partly?"

He turned the page.

"Revenge was emotional."

"Her real goal was strategic."

On the next page was a copy of the legal document found in her room.

The inheritance agreement.

The one designed to transfer control of Moretti Holdings if she gave birth to Alessandro's heir.

"She wasn't trying to marry me."

Alessandro's voice was quiet.

"She was trying to create a legal position."

I frowned.

"But if the child was fake..."

"She planned to make everyone believe it existed long enough."

He pointed at the agreement.

"Once the pregnancy was public, the board would pressure me to protect the future heir."

I understood.

The fake baby was not the weapon.

The belief in the baby was.

"She would have gained control."

Alessandro nodded.

"Not immediately."

He looked at the numbers.

"But enough."

"How much?"

"Forty percent voting authority."

My eyes widened.

"Forty percent?"

"Enough to block decisions."

"Enough to create chaos."

"Enough to eventually take over."

Vanessa hadn't wanted a marriage.

She wanted a position.

She wanted the empire.

But then Alessandro found something worse.

The hidden notebook from her room.

The one containing names.

Payments.

Connections.

He studied it for hours.

Then he noticed a pattern.

Every name belonged to someone connected to a tragedy.

A business failure.

A ruined reputation.

A suspicious death.

"These aren't random."

I looked at the pages.

"What are they?"

"Targets."

My stomach tightened.

"Targets?"

Alessandro nodded.

"People who stood in the way of Anthony Bell."

Then he showed me the last page.

One name was circled.

A name written more recently than the others.

Alessandro Moretti.

The room went silent.

But beneath his name was another.

A name written smaller.

Almost hidden.

Emma Hayes.

I stopped breathing.

"No."

The word escaped before I could control it.

"No."

Alessandro immediately took the notebook.

His expression changed.

For the first time since I had known him...

I saw something close to fear.

Not for himself.

For someone else.

"Marco."

His voice became sharp.

"Find out when this was written."

Marco looked.

"Sir..."

"When?"

A pause.

"Three weeks ago."

Three weeks.

Vanessa had written Emma's name three weeks ago.

Before the engagement party.

Before the fake pregnancy was exposed.

Before my daughter pointed at the closet.

I felt sick.

"She knew about Emma."

Alessandro nodded.

"Yes."

"Why?"

That question haunted me.

Why would a powerful woman care about a three-year-old child?

Emma wasn't an heir.

She wasn't a threat.

She was just a little girl.

Then Alessandro noticed another document.

A photograph attached to the notebook.

He picked it up.

His face changed.

"What?"

He didn't answer.

He handed it to me.

It was a photograph of Daniel.

My Daniel.

Standing outside a building.

Next to a woman.

A woman I had never seen before.

But Alessandro recognized her.

"Who is she?"

My voice trembled.

He stared at the photograph.

"That's my mother."

The room became silent.

Daniel had met Alessandro's mother.

The woman everyone believed was dead.

The woman who left a letter hidden for her son.

The woman connected to everything.

"How?"

I whispered.

Alessandro didn't answer.

Because there was another question.

A more terrifying one.

If Daniel knew Alessandro's mother...

If Daniel knew the truth about the Moretti family...

If Daniel had hidden evidence...

Then why did Vanessa know about Emma?

The answer came later that evening.

Vanessa contacted Alessandro.

Unexpectedly.

Directly.

She requested a meeting.

No lawyers.

No security.

No cameras.

Just them.

Everyone advised him not to go.

Marco especially.

"Sir, it's a trap."

Alessandro agreed.

"Probably."

"Then why go?"

He looked at me.

"Because she wants something."

The meeting took place in the old Moretti library.

A room filled with books nobody touched.

History.

Law.

Family records.

The kind of room where generations of secrets had been buried.

Vanessa entered alone.

No makeup.

No designer dress.

No performance.

For the first time, she looked like a normal person.

Almost.

"You know everything now."

Alessandro stood across from her.

"Not everything."

A faint smile crossed her face.

"Good."

"You threatened Maria's daughter."

Vanessa's expression changed.

"I never touched that child."

"You wrote her name."

Silence.

For the first time...

Vanessa looked guilty.

"I needed leverage."

Alessandro's eyes hardened.

"She's three years old."

"I know."

The answer came too quickly.

Too honestly.

"Then explain."

Vanessa looked down.

And when she spoke...

Her voice was different.

Not the manipulative voice from the ballroom.

Not the socialite voice.

A daughter's voice.

"My father told me the Moretti family destroyed ours."

She looked up.

"I grew up hearing one story."

"Your family took everything."

"Your family ruined my grandfather."

"Your family killed my mother."

Alessandro said nothing.

"So I came here."

Vanessa swallowed.

"I was supposed to ruin you."

A pause.

"Make you trust me."

"Take your empire."

"Leave you with nothing."

"And then?"

Her eyes moved toward him.

"And then I met you."

The confession surprised even Alessandro.

"I expected a monster."

She laughed sadly.

"I found a man."

For a moment...

There was silence.

Then Alessandro asked:

"Who changed the plan?"

Vanessa looked away.

And that was when I knew.

Someone else existed.

Someone above her.

"Vanessa."

Her face tightened.

"Who?"

She whispered:

"My father."

The room went cold.

"Anthony Bell changed the plan?"

She nodded.

"He didn't want your empire."

Alessandro stared.

"Then what did he want?"

Vanessa looked directly at him.

And said the words that changed everything.

"He wanted you to have the empire..."

"...so he could destroy it from inside."

Alessandro froze.

Vanessa continued.

"My pregnancy was only the first step."

"The board."

"The investors."

"The legal documents."

"The media attack."

"It was all designed to make you look unstable."

"Why?"

Alessandro asked.

Vanessa's answer was barely audible.

"Because when a king loses control..."

"...people stop protecting him."

The room went silent.

Then Alessandro asked:

"Where is your father?"

Vanessa hesitated.

And that hesitation was enough.

"Vanessa."

She closed her eyes.

"He is already inside."

A chill moved through me.

"Inside where?"

She looked toward the walls.

Toward the mansion.

Toward the empire.

"Inside Moretti Holdings."

Alessandro understood immediately.

The enemy was not approaching.

He was already there.

Then Vanessa added one final sentence.

A sentence that changed the entire investigation.

"And Alessandro..."

"If you want to save your company..."

"You need to find the person who has been protecting my father for twenty years."

"Who?"

Vanessa looked at him.

And whispered:

"Your father."

The same answer.

Again.

The dead man at the center of everything.

That night, Alessandro stood alone in his office.

The empire around him was collapsing.

His mother was alive.

His father was a possible criminal.

His uncle was a traitor.

His enemy's daughter had been living beside him.

And the woman he trusted least...

Had just given him the first honest information she had ever offered.

But none of us realized the truth yet.

Vanessa had not revealed everything.

Because the most dangerous secret was still hidden.

The reason Anthony Bell chose Daniel Hayes.

The reason Emma remembered the song.

The reason Alessandro's mother left a letter.

And the reason Daniel died...

May you like

Was because he discovered the one thing that could destroy every powerful family involved.
