Chapter 12 – Saving the Twins

Chapter 12 – Saving the Twins

The words refused to disappear.

"Daniel isn't your son."

They echoed inside his mind long after the recording stopped.

They echoed while the hospital alarms beeped.

They echoed while detectives rushed through the halls.

They echoed while Emma held his hand, asking questions he couldn't answer.

Because for the first time in his life...

Daniel Hayes did not know who he was.

The Truth That Came at the Worst Time

"Daniel."

Emma's voice pulled him back.

He looked at her.

Her face was pale.

Not because she was afraid of the danger.

Because she was afraid of what the truth was doing to him.

"What did the recording say?"

Daniel opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

How could he explain something that had shattered his entire identity?

How could he tell the woman carrying his children that the family he was born into might have been built on a lie?

Rachel stepped forward.

"Daniel."

He looked at her.

"We need to focus."

Those words sounded simple.

But they were exactly what he needed.

Focus.

Not collapse.

Not break.

Not now.

Because someone had already proven they were willing to hurt innocent people.

And his babies were still vulnerable.

The Emergency Call

Before anyone could speak again, Daniel's phone rang.

The hospital.

A nurse.

His expression changed immediately.

"Hello?"

The voice on the other end was urgent.

"Mr. Hayes, you need to return to the maternity floor."

"Why?"

"Your wife's monitoring equipment is showing unusual readings."

Daniel stood instantly.

"Emma?"

The nurse continued.

"The babies' heart rates have changed."

Everything stopped.

The Race Upstairs

The hospital became a blur.

Doctors.

Nurses.

Footsteps.

Commands being shouted.

Daniel walked beside Emma's bed as they rushed her down the hallway.

"What's happening?" Emma asked.

The doctor stayed calm.

"Your babies are showing signs of distress."

"Why?"

"We don't know yet."

Daniel's hands shook.

After everything they had survived...

After Vanessa.

After the threats.

After the lies.

He could not lose them.

Not now.

The Suspicion

Rachel followed them into the hallway.

She wasn't supposed to enter the delivery area.

But something felt wrong.

Too many things had happened.

Too many "accidents."

She approached the nurse station.

"Who accessed Mrs. Hayes' medical information today?"

The nurse checked the computer.

"Only authorized staff."

Rachel looked closer.

"Who?"

The nurse hesitated.

Then:

"Doctor Lewis."

Rachel's eyes narrowed.

Again.

The same name.

The same doctor connected to the altered records.

The Doctor's Secret

Rachel immediately requested security footage.

Within minutes, they found something.

Doctor Lewis had entered Emma's room fifteen minutes before the babies' heart rates changed.

Daniel saw the footage.

"What was he doing?"

The nurse zoomed in.

At first, nothing seemed unusual.

Then Rachel noticed something.

"Stop."

The video froze.

"Look at his hand."

Daniel stared.

Doctor Lewis had placed something near Emma's IV line.

His face changed.

"What is that?"

Rachel's voice became cold.

"Something that doesn't belong there."

The Man Behind the Mask

Security searched for Doctor Lewis.

But he was gone.

His office was empty.

His identification badge had been abandoned.

His real name wasn't even registered.

The doctor treating Emma wasn't a doctor.

He was an imposter.

Someone had placed him inside the hospital.

Someone with enough power to bypass security.

Someone who knew exactly where Emma was.

The Hidden Message

A small envelope was found inside Doctor Lewis' abandoned office.

It had Daniel's name on it.

Inside was a handwritten message.

You should have taken the money and walked away.

Your grandfather made the same mistake.

He thought truth mattered more than survival.

Daniel crushed the paper in his hand.

Then another line caught his attention.

Your children are the final key.

His blood turned cold.

The Real Reason They Were After the Trust

Rachel read the message.

"The children?"

Daniel looked at her.

"What does that mean?"

She thought carefully.

"Your grandfather created the trust before you were born."

"So?"

"So maybe the trust wasn't designed only around money."

Daniel remembered the recording.

The evidence.

The betrayal.

The hidden files.

Then he understood.

"The recovery code wasn't just protected by a password."

Rachel nodded.

"It was protected by bloodline verification."

Daniel looked toward Emma's room.

"The twins."

The Attack

Suddenly, the lights went out.

The entire hospital floor went dark.

For three seconds, nobody moved.

Then emergency alarms activated.

Rachel immediately reached for her weapon.

"Everyone stay where you are."

Daniel's heart raced.

"Emma."

He ran.

The hallway lights flickered back.

And Daniel saw something that made his blood freeze.

A person wearing hospital clothing standing outside Emma's room.

Holding a syringe.

Protecting His Family

"Stop!"

The person turned.

They ran.

Daniel chased.

He didn't think.

He didn't calculate.

He only knew one thing.

That person had come for his wife.

For his children.

The person reached the stairwell.

Daniel grabbed their arm.

They struggled.

Then the mask fell.

Daniel froze.

Because he knew the face.

"Mom?"

Elizabeth Hayes stared back at him.

Her eyes filled with tears.

"Daniel..."

He stepped away.

"You?"

"I was trying to protect you."

"Protect me?"

His voice broke.

"You tried to hurt my children."

"No."

She shook her head desperately.

"I came because I knew they would send someone."

"Who?"

She looked terrified.

"The person who controls everything."

The Enemy Revealed

Daniel stared at her.

"Who?"

Elizabeth looked around.

Then whispered:

"Your father."

Silence.

Daniel felt the world collapse again.

"My father died."

Elizabeth shook her head.

"No."

She whispered:

"He disappeared."

The Final Truth

Before Daniel could ask another question, a loud crash came from the maternity room.

Everyone turned.

The twins' monitors were screaming.

Doctors rushed inside.

Daniel pushed past them.

Emma was crying.

The babies' heart rates were dropping.

"Do something!"

The doctors moved quickly.

Rachel grabbed Elizabeth.

"Where is the person controlling this?"

Elizabeth looked toward the window.

A shadow stood outside.

Watching.

Then disappeared.

The Choice

The doctors prepared for an emergency delivery.

Emma grabbed Daniel's hand.

"Don't leave me."

He looked at her.

"I won't."

"No matter what happens."

"I promise."

Outside the room, the war continued.

Inside, two lives fought to enter the world.

And Daniel finally understood.

The enemy wasn't trying to steal the money.

They weren't trying to steal the trust.

They were trying to erase the future.

Because his children were proof.

Proof that the Hayes bloodline continued.

Proof that the truth could survive.

The Twins Are Born

Hours later, the first cry filled the room.

Then another.

Two tiny voices.

Two new lives.

Daniel broke down as the doctor placed the babies in his arms.

After everything...

After every lie...

After every betrayal...

They were here.

Safe.

Alive.

Emma cried softly.

Daniel leaned down and kissed her forehead.

"We made it."

She smiled weakly.

"No."

She looked at their children.

"They made it."

But the victory lasted only minutes.

Because when Daniel returned to the waiting area...

Elizabeth was gone.

And on the chair where she had been sitting was a final message.

Three words.

ASK YOUR FATHER.

Daniel stared at the paper.

His hands tightened.

Because now he knew.

The person behind everything wasn't finished.

And the biggest secret of all...

May you like

Was still waiting.
