CHAPTER 12 — THE CHILD THEY HID

THE MAID WHO WAS REALLY HIS WIFE

CHAPTER 12 — THE CHILD THEY HID

The greatest cruelty was not taking something from someone.

It was letting them believe it was gone forever.

For three years, Alejandro Castillo mourned a child he never had the chance to meet.

For three years, Elena Castillo carried the pain of a mother who believed her baby had been taken from her by fate.

But fate had not taken their child.

Someone had.

Someone had looked at an innocent baby and seen only a weapon.

A key.

A bloodline.

A billion-dollar inheritance.

And now that truth was finally coming to light.

"Alive."

The word repeated inside Alejandro's mind.

Alive.

His child was alive.

But there was no time to celebrate.

Not yet.

Because Clara's warning still echoed through the phone.

Someone is trying to kill him.

"Where is my son?"

Alejandro demanded.

The woman on the other end of the call remained silent.

Too silent.

"Clara."

His voice became colder.

"You called me because you wanted me to find him."

A shaky breath.

"I called because I couldn't live with the guilt anymore."

Elena stepped closer.

"Please."

Her voice broke.

"Tell us where he is."

Another silence.

Then Clara whispered:

"Not on the phone."

The call ended.

Alejandro immediately turned to Marcus.

"Find Clara."

"We already are."

Marcus looked at his screen.

"Her signal disappeared."

Alejandro's expression hardened.

"When?"

"Thirty seconds after the call."

That was not a coincidence.

Someone was watching.

Someone was listening.

Someone knew they were close.

Two hours later, Alejandro, Elena, and Marcus arrived at an abandoned church outside the city.

The location had been sent from Clara's encrypted message.

A place nobody would normally search.

The old building smelled of dust, rain, and forgotten memories.

Elena held Alejandro's hand.

Neither of them spoke.

Because both were afraid.

Not of danger.

Of hope.

Hope was harder.

Fear prepared you for pain.

Hope made you imagine happiness.

And losing happiness again was terrifying.

Inside the church, they found a small wooden box.

Inside:

A baby bracelet.

Medical records.

And a photograph.

Alejandro picked it up.

His hands started shaking.

A baby.

A small child with dark hair.

His eyes.

Elena covered her mouth.

"Oh my God."

She touched the photograph.

"My baby."

For the first time in three years...

she saw the child she thought she lost.

Then Marcus found a letter.

From Clara.

Alejandro opened it.

Mr. Castillo,

If you are reading this, I failed to protect you the way I promised.

Your son was born healthy.

He was never lost.

He was taken.

Elena closed her eyes.

A tear rolled down her face.

The order came from someone inside your family.

Alejandro's jaw tightened.

They wanted the child hidden until he was old enough to be controlled.

The inheritance could only be transferred through blood.

They needed the heir alive.

A pause.

But when Elena survived, everything changed.

Alejandro continued reading.

Because your enemies realized something.

The child was not just the heir.

He was proof of their crime.

The letter ended with a final warning.

Do not trust anyone who claims they protected him.

They were protecting the inheritance, not the child.

The church became silent.

Because the truth was worse than they imagined.

Their son had not been abandoned.

He had been kept.

Like property.

"Where is he now?"

Elena whispered.

Marcus checked the records.

"There is one location connected to the documents."

Alejandro looked at him.

"Where?"

Marcus hesitated.

"The Castillo private estate."

The same place where the clinic records led.

The same place nobody had searched.

The same place connected to Alejandro's mother.

They arrived at the estate before sunset.

The old mansion stood untouched.

But someone had been living there.

Fresh flowers.

New furniture.

A child's toys.

Elena stopped.

Her eyes filled with tears.

She saw a small wooden horse near the fireplace.

Something a mother would notice.

Something nobody else would understand.

"I bought that."

Alejandro looked at her.

"What?"

"Before he was born."

She touched the toy.

"I bought it when I found out I was pregnant."

The child had been here.

Their child had touched the things she bought before she ever met him.

Then they heard footsteps.

Everyone froze.

A young woman appeared from the hallway.

She looked terrified.

"Who are you?"

Alejandro asked.

The woman stared at Elena.

Then at Alejandro.

Her eyes filled with tears.

"You finally came."

"Where is my son?"

Alejandro asked.

The woman looked down.

"Safe."

"Where?"

She hesitated.

"With me."

Elena stepped forward.

"Who are you?"

The woman looked ashamed.

"My name is Clara."

The same nurse.

"You took him?"

Elena whispered.

Clara shook her head quickly.

"No."

"I saved him."

The explanation came slowly.

After Elena disappeared, Clara discovered the truth about the conspiracy.

She knew the child was being used.

She knew the people controlling the Castillo empire only cared about the inheritance.

So she hid him.

Changed his identity.

Protected him.

"Why didn't you tell us?"

Alejandro asked.

Clara looked down.

"Because I didn't know who to trust."

A painful silence.

"And then I saw what happened to Elena."

Her voice broke.

"I watched everyone pretend she was gone."

"I realized nobody was safe."

Then a small voice came from upstairs.

"Clara?"

Everyone froze.

A little boy appeared at the top of the staircase.

Five years old.

Holding a toy.

Looking confused.

Elena stopped breathing.

Because she knew.

A mother always knew.

Even before names.

Even before introductions.

"My baby..."

The boy looked at her.

Not understanding.

Then his eyes moved to Alejandro.

Something about him felt familiar.

"Who are they?"

The child asked.

Clara began crying.

"These are your parents."

The boy froze.

"My parents?"

Elena fell to her knees.

She did not care about the expensive dress.

The mansion.

The empire.

The years stolen from her.

She only saw her son.

The child she thought she lost.

But before she could touch him...

The lights went out.

A loud crash came from outside.

Marcus reached for his weapon.

Alejandro immediately moved in front of Elena and the child.

Then a voice came through the darkness.

"Beautiful reunion."

Everyone froze.

The voice was familiar.

Too familiar.

Daniel Castillo stepped into the room.

Calm.

Smiling.

As if he had been invited.

Alejandro stared at his brother.

"You."

Daniel looked at the child.

"The heir."

A pause.

"Finally, everything is where it belongs."

Elena held her son tightly.

"Why?"

Daniel looked at her.

And for the first time, she saw the truth.

There was no guilt.

No regret.

Only ambition.

"Because, Elena..."

He smiled.

"You were never supposed to be his mother."

Alejandro stepped forward.

"You will never touch my family again."

Daniel laughed softly.

"You still don't understand."

He looked around the mansion.

"This was never my plan."

A pause.

"I was only following orders."

Alejandro's face changed.

"Whose orders?"

Daniel smiled.

And the answer destroyed everything.

May you like

"Your father's."
