CHAPTER 16 — THE LAST LIE OF VIVIAN

THE MAID WHO WAS REALLY HIS WIFE
CHAPTER 16 — THE LAST LIE OF VIVIAN
The most dangerous lies were not the ones people told others.
They were the lies people told themselves.
Vivian Moretti had spent years believing she was a victim.
She told herself she was forced into darkness.
She told herself she deserved everything she took.
She told herself Elena was weak because she allowed people to hurt her.
But now, sitting alone inside a cold interrogation room, Vivian finally faced the truth.
The only person she had successfully deceived...
Was herself.
The room was empty except for a table, a chair, and a single folder placed in front of her.
Her entire life was inside that folder.
Bank records.
Messages.
Photographs.
Evidence of every decision she thought nobody would ever discover.
Vivian stared at it.
Then laughed softly.
A broken laugh.
"They really think they know everything."
The detective across from her said nothing.
He knew better.
People like Vivian always talked eventually.
Not because they felt guilty.
Because they could not stand losing control.
"You have one chance," the detective said.
"Tell the truth."
Vivian looked up.
"The truth?"
A smile appeared.
"Nobody in the Castillo family knows what that word means."
At the Castillo mansion, Alejandro watched the news.
The world had turned against him.
Again.
The headlines were brutal.
CASTILLO EMPIRE DIVIDED BY FAMILY WAR
DANIEL CASTILLO CLAIMS LEGITIMATE SUCCESSION
ALEJANDRO CASTILLO'S IDENTITY QUESTIONED
Elena stood beside him.
"You can fight this."
Alejandro shook his head.
"No."
She frowned.
"No?"
He looked at the screen.
"For years, everyone fought over the empire."
A pause.
"Maybe that is why this family keeps destroying itself."
Elena understood.
"The problem was never the money."
"No."
Alejandro looked at Lucas playing quietly in the next room.
"The problem was that everyone believed they deserved power more than they deserved family."
Then Marcus entered.
"We received a message."
Alejandro turned.
"From who?"
Marcus placed the phone down.
"Vivian."
Elena immediately became tense.
"Why would she contact us?"
Marcus looked serious.
"Because she claims she knows the truth about Daniel."
The meeting happened in secret.
Not because Alejandro trusted Vivian.
Because he knew desperate people revealed secrets.
Vivian entered the room wearing a prison uniform.
The woman who once walked through the Castillo mansion wearing diamonds now looked completely different.
But her eyes remained the same.
Sharp.
Calculating.
She looked at Elena first.
For several seconds, neither woman spoke.
Then Vivian whispered:
"I underestimated you."
Elena answered coldly:
"That was your mistake."
Vivian smiled slightly.
"Do you know what the worst part is?"
Nobody answered.
"I almost won."
The room became silent.
"I had everything."
"The mansion."
"The attention."
"The power."
"Everyone believed me."
She looked at Alejandro.
"Even you almost believed me."
Alejandro's expression did not change.
"Why are you here?"
Vivian leaned back.
"Because Daniel betrayed me."
Elena's eyes narrowed.
"Did you expect loyalty from him?"
Vivian ignored the comment.
"He never cared about me."
"He never cared about anyone."
"He only cared about becoming the heir."
Alejandro stared.
"You helped him."
Vivian looked away.
"Yes."
A pause.
"I helped him."
The admission shocked everyone.
"I was the one who created the pregnancy lie."
Elena froze.
"The fake pregnancy?"
Vivian nodded.
"I thought if I convinced Alejandro I was carrying his child, I would become untouchable."
Her voice lowered.
"But Daniel knew the truth."
"What truth?"
Vivian looked directly at Alejandro.
"That you were never the real target."
A silence followed.
"Daniel wanted Lucas."
"Not because of inheritance."
"Because Lucas was proof."
"Proof that Victor chose you."
Alejandro frowned.
"Explain."
Vivian continued.
"Victor's final inheritance document wasn't about blood."
"It was about choice."
"The person who protected the heir would control the empire."
A pause.
"Daniel knew."
"So he created chaos."
"He removed Elena."
"He hid Lucas."
"He destroyed your reputation."
"Because he believed when everything collapsed, you would prove yourself unworthy."
Elena looked at Vivian.
"You knew where Lucas was."
Vivian became quiet.
Too quiet.
Alejandro noticed immediately.
"Answer."
Vivian looked down.
"I knew he was alive."
Elena's face changed.
"You knew?"
"I didn't know where."
"But I knew Daniel had moved him."
"Why didn't you tell anyone?"
Vivian's eyes filled slightly.
For the first time, she looked human.
"Because I was afraid."
Nobody expected that answer.
"I spent my whole life trying to become powerful because I was terrified of being nothing."
She looked at Elena.
"You had something I never had."
"What?"
"A person who would choose you."
The confession was interrupted.
Marcus's phone rang.
He answered.
His face changed.
"Sir."
Alejandro looked at him.
"What happened?"
Marcus slowly lowered the phone.
"Daniel escaped."
The room froze.
Vivian closed her eyes.
"No."
Alejandro stood.
"How?"
Marcus looked uncomfortable.
"Someone helped him."
"Who?"
A pause.
"Someone inside the Castillo security team."
Again.
Another betrayal.
Alejandro looked at Vivian.
"You knew this would happen."
Vivian shook her head.
"No."
Then she whispered:
"But I know where he is going."
Everyone turned.
Vivian looked toward the window.
"The old Castillo estate."
Alejandro's expression changed.
"Why?"
Vivian answered:
"Because that is where Victor hid the real inheritance."
The final secret.
The one everyone had been fighting over.
Was not in a bank.
Not in a company.
Not in a legal document.
It was hidden inside the place where the Castillo family began.
Before leaving, Vivian stopped beside Elena.
"I know you will never forgive me."
Elena looked at her.
"No."
Vivian lowered her eyes.
"But I need you to know something."
A pause.
"I hated you because you had everything I wanted."
Elena answered quietly:
"No."
"You hated me because I had something you could never steal."
Vivian looked up.
"What?"
Elena held Alejandro's hand.
"Love."
For once, Vivian had no answer.
That night, Alejandro returned to the old estate.
The place where his son had been hidden.
The place where his family's secrets waited.
Daniel was already there.
Standing in front of a hidden vault.
He smiled when Alejandro entered.
"You're late."
Alejandro looked at the vault.
"What is inside?"
Daniel smiled.
"The truth."
The vault opened.
Inside was a single document.
A final letter from Victor Castillo.
But before Alejandro could read it...
Daniel spoke.
"Your father didn't choose you."
A pause.
"He chose me."
Alejandro opened the letter.
The first sentence destroyed everything Daniel believed.
"To my son Alejandro..."
"The only child I ever chose."
Daniel's smile disappeared.
And for the first time...
May you like
The man who wanted the throne realized he might never have been the heir.
